As the night settled in, Lou found herself alone in the hotel bar. The soft glow of dimmed lights and the soothing hum of conversation from other patrons created a cozy ambiance. She decided to spend some time there, relishing the tranquility and solitude the bar offered.
Taking a seat at the bar counter, Lou greeted the bartender with a friendly smile. "Good evening. Can I get a martini, please?" she requested.
As Lou sipped her drink, she let her mind wander, reflecting on the events of the day. She thought about Danny, the little girl who had touched her heart. It was just a little girl being nice with her. But still, she looked so familiar And maybe she reminded Lou something she could never have
The bar's gentle music and the warm atmosphere were comforting, offering a respite from the emotional rollercoaster Lou had been on. It was a chance to process her feelings and find a moment of peace amid the complexities of life. She knew that being alone didn't equate to loneliness; it could be a time for self-reflection and inner connection.
"Shit"
Lou was taken aback by the sudden interruption, and her train of thought abruptly halted. She looked around, trying to discern the source of the exclamation.
"I'm sorry, is everything okay?" she asked, turning her attention to the bartender, who seemed equally surprised by the outburst.
The bartender chuckled softly, shaking his head. "I apologize for that, it seems like one of the glasses slipped from my hand while I was cleaning up," he explained, slightly embarrassed.
Lou couldn't help but laugh in response to the bartender's explanation. "No worries, accidents happen," she said, reassuringly. "As long as you're alright."
The bartender nodded, a small smile returning to his face. "Yeah yeah I'm okay. I'll clean it up right away," he said, grabing a sponge.
"So what's your story ?" Asked the bartender after a minute of silence.
Lou appreciated the bartender's friendly demeanor and genuine interest in getting to know her better. She took a moment to collect her thoughts before responding.
"Well, my name is Lou, and I'm just visiting the city for a little break, I'm from New York.." she began, offering a warm smile.
The bartender nodded. "New York, huh? I was working there a few years ago, but I'm more of a west coast guy." he remarked.
"Yeah, New York can be overwhelming at times."
The bartender leaned against the counter, a reminiscent expression on his face. "That's for sure. The fast pace, the constant hustle—it can be both exhilarating and draining," he said, nodding in agreement. "But the West Coast has its charm too. I've always been drawn to the laid-back vibe and the beauty of the ocean."
Lou nodded, appreciating the bartender's perspective. "I can see why. There's something serene about being near the water," she replied. "It's nice to have a change of scenery every now and then."
"Yeah," the bartender agreed. "Now, I'm sorry to ask, and if you don't want to to talk, I'll leave you alone, but... Why do you look so lost ? Sorry, I just like to know the stories of strangers; that's my favorite part of my job."
"It's okay; I don't mind sharing," she said, offering a small smile. "I guess I do feel a bit lost lately. Life back in New York has been chaotic, and I've been feeling overwhelmed with the constant demands and expectations. I needed a break, a chance to step back and reflect."
The bartender nodded attentively, listening without judgment. "I can understand that. Sometimes we all need a moment to catch our breath and find some clarity," he said compassionately.
