CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE, real talk.

BRIELLE,

By the time we both left Josh's house, it was only almost ten o'clock. Danny didn't want to be out too late tonight. Danny and I laughed together as we talked about things we did a while back. He was the one who brought up the conversation after I said something that reminded him of that.

"Now that I think about it, that was so long ago," I said, "I still laughed about it weeks after it happened."

"Cause it was fucking hilarious," Danny said in between his laughs. "Then after that, we began to talk and stuff. I was hoping you didn't think I was weird for wanting to hang out."

"It wasn't weird. How else were we supposed to become friends? It was the spark."

"After a while I was like, this girl is cool. We instantly just got along, like how I did with guys."

I nodded, "yeah, I'm just not much of an asshole as you are."

"I'm not an asshole," Danny looked at me with an offended look, "not all the time."

I playfully shook my head, earning an eye roll from him. Danny and I met one night through mutual friends at an event in LA. After we got introduced, we immediately talked to each other like we were already friends. We kept in contact after that, and slowly started to hang out and build that friendship bond.

"Then when people found out we were good friends, we had all those allegations between us." Danny chuckled.

"It only lasted for a little, after a while they knew everything was just jokes and platonic."

"That's because they always see me around guys, and when they see a girl is around it's the end of the fucking world," Danny said, "but I guess it was just like, a random collab. They didn't expect us to be the way we are."

"Most definitely random. Our platforms are two different things," I smiled at him, "it's not a bad thing though... the only bad thing was when you went ghost on me for a little."

"Oh my god," Danny leaned on his hand that was supported by the driver door, "I did not ghost you. We literally were still in contact, we just didn't hang out for a while."

"I'm just messing with you," I playfully pinched his side, making him gently jerk away. "I know they missed seeing us together. We most def cannot beat the allegations anymore, though."

Danny shrugged, "they don't know. So we still could."

I didn't say anything else after that, letting silence fill the car. Danny kept his eyes on the road the whole time, while I stared out of my window that was rolled down. The air was warm, but it wasn't hot.

I then felt Danny's hand rest on my leg, just above my knee. He gave it a light squeeze, keeping his hand in place.

We began to drive past a lake, "hundred bucks if you jump in it, right now." Danny said, pointing out the window as he slowed the car down.

"No!" I exclaimed, "hell no, not right now."

Danny laughed at me and began to drive at the speed limit again. After a few minutes, we finally reached his street. I thought that this was a good time to ask him what we had going on. It was better for it to be known than to just be floating up in the air. I waited til he turned into the driveway before I spoke.

"This is a random question, but are we like, just friends who are fucking around, or?"

Danny leaned back in his seat, turning his head towards me, "is that what you want?"
