Chapter Thirty Four
Amanda’s P.O.V
I stood in the doorway of Bekah’s house, Tracie behind her, waving to me.
“Tell your parents I say hello!” Tracie said, smiling.
“Remember to text me when you get home! Be careful driving!” Bekah yelled at me, even though I was only a few feet away, her reddish brown hair moving gently in the slight breeze coming from the open door. She was hanging on to the doorknob, grinning at me.
“Let it go, Bekah. I’ll be fine. It wasn’t even my fault.” I laughed, then continued, “I’ll text you though. See you later! Bye Tracie, thanks for letting me come!” I grinned and waved at both girls before jogging down the steps of the porch and to the car. I threw my bag onto the passenger seat like I had getting in the first time and got in second.
I drove the speed limit all the way home, being cautious. Ever since my accident, I was sure to look out more than usual. I mean, it was the other guy’s fault for being in the wrong lane and driving while intoxicated, but if I hadn’t been so shocked about it, I would have been able to avoid it better.
Getting home, I noticed that Nate’s run-down car was in the driveway along with both of my parents’. Which was always surprising to see. Something was going on. Was I late for dinner? I told them I’d be home at 3:30...I looked at the clock in the car and it showed that I was even home early. But my parents were never home that early.
I got my duffle bag and put the strap over my shoulder so that it rested against my hip before walking inside. I found all three of them sitting in the living room as I was about to pass. Nate and my brother were talking about something that was in the news, and my mother was just watching it, smiling slightly at my brother and father talking.
“I’m home. What’s going on? It’s early for you two to be home.” I said, meaning my parents. Nate looked at me, dropping the conversation with my parents and grinned at me. They just looked at me. Well, other than my mother who smiled at me. My dad didn’t smile all that often.
“Hey, sweetie. Your mother and I just figured we could all go out to dinner at Maya’s tonight.” My dad said, looking back and forth between me and the tv.
“What? When were you going to mention that? I’ve been sitting here with you watching the news for twenty minutes and you never mentioned it.” Nate exclaimed, shocked.
“I just mentioned it now, didn’t I, son?”
“Well yeah, but you could have told me, not Amanda. You-”
“Stop, Nate. That sounds great, dad. When are we going?” I asked, giving Nate a look. Now was not the time to get into it with mom and dad.
“Well, as soon as you’re ready we can go.”
“Okay!” I smiled at all three of them and jogged to my room. I was kind of dreading the dinner, so we might as well get it over with as soon as possible. Outings with the family never really went very well. Especially with Nate there too. The last time we all went out to dinner was right after Finn’s funeral before he left. They had gotten into a fight within a few minutes and he left. It was not good. I still don’t know where he went after leaving to this very day. He hadn’t come home that night until about three in the morning. Not to mention he left a few days later.
