Chapter Three

Amanda’s P.O.V

I sighed as I collapsed onto my bed. My head was spinning from all the information I had re-stuffed into it. I had already learned all the stuff I had been tutoring Dylan, but now its just being re-stuffed into my head, and that was giving me a head ache.

“Sweet heart, we’re going out to dinner, so get ready.” My mom said, coming into my room.

“We, as in, all of us? With who?” I asked, sitting up.

“Just us, sweet heart. But do dress nicely.” She said, leaving. She quietly shut my door behind herself. I smiled. Maybe things are turning up?

I got dressed in a white knee length dress with a thick black belt around my waist. I also curled my hair lightly so that it was just wavy and was ready. I also had put on light makeup and a fancier jacket than I usually wear.

So there I was, sitting in the back seat of my parent’s car, just thinking about nothing. Literally, nothing. I think just being able to go out to dinner with just my parents was having a good effect on me. My head ache was gone, and I was relaxed.

“Here we are, kiddo.” My dad said happily from the front seat.

I looked up at the restaurant name, and scowled. We weren’t eating with just us. This restaurant was owned by my parents’ best friend, Maya Lockwood. Her husband fully owned it, and she was an author with my mom who helped out all the time.

I got out of the car and walked inside. I was instantly attacked by Maya. “Amanda! Good to see you again! How long has it been? Three months? Well, no matter. You’re as beautiful as ever! Ah! Miranda! Fredrick! Your usual section?”

She was always this excited. She’s just a tiny thing too. She had to be at least my height, which was saying something. I was only five feet two inches. She was the same height as me. Basically, she was just a small ball of energy. I really don’t understand how she can be so peppy all the time.

She had walked us to our normal section and we sat down.

“Maya? Is there something you want to tell me?” My mom asked her, staring at the stomach of Maya. Her eyes were wide and filled with happiness.

“Oh! You noticed already?! Damn. Then again, you’re an author. You notice anything. But yes, Jason and I are expecting!” she laid her hand on her stomach, and my mom squealed.

“Maya! This is so exciting! You’re going to be a first time mother! Being a mother is so exciting! I just loved having Amanda.” My mom said, smiling at me before looking back to her best friend, who was almost jumping with happiness.

I just sipped the iced tea I got a few minutes later while trying to ignore my mother’s happy squeals and Maya’s loud voice filled almost to the bursting point with happiness. A baby. What’s so exciting about that? I mean, sure, they are really cute, but they are a pain to handle. I don’t want kids when I get old enough. I really don’t.

I wasn’t listening until something she said sparked my interest.

“Yes, but I’m kind of worried also. My friend Wendy Newman had a baby five years ago, and she complains about him all the time! She said that he’s a problem child. So I’m kind of worried that my child may turn out like that too. Also, he’s violent! Can you believe it?! Five years old, and already into teenage rated games and hitting.” Maya said worriedly.

“Wait! Newman?! How many kids does Wendy have?” I asked quickly.

“Um, three. All boys. That’s another thing! All boys! I don’t know how she does it! Especially when her husband left her and is threatening her and one of her sons. It’s a shame.” she shook her head.
