Chapter Six
Dylan’s P.O.V
I groaned and threw my text book across the room. “I’m done with this bull-.” I glanced at her parents, sitting on the couch, their eye brows raised. “Um…I’m done with this…um, crap?”
Sitting on the white couch again. I wonder when I’ll get to stop coming here? I don’t know. I’m still self conscience about having her come to my house. I always wonder if she thinks I’m lower than her because I have a tiny house, while she has a huge one. She most likely does.
Her parents wouldn’t stop watching me. It was like they thought I was an alien on their perfect Earth. Not to mention they thought I was a bad influence on their daughter. Which I think is really stupid. This is the only time I’m by her, and she’s either yelling at me for swearing or studying with me.
I shifted uncomfortably on the couch, clearing my throat. Her parent’s didn’t stop watching me.
“Are you thirsty or something?” Amanda asked once more. Whenever I shifted, she thought I was either hungry or thirsty. I don’t understand her very well.
“For the third time, no.” I told her, jokingly.
She just rolled her eyes at me. “Whatever. Okay, just get back to studying. In case you’ve forgotten, we have a test tomorrow.”
I cursed inside my head. Why did she have to be so smart and make me feel like a complete idiot in front of her parents?
Then, a thought swam through my head. “Um, can I just ask one question?” I looked at Amanda’s parents. They both looked shocked to heard me talk polite again. I sighed inwardly. Oh God, Maya. What did you tell them?
“What is it?” Her dad asked, stiffly and coldly.
“Well, what were you doing at that pizza place if you weren’t getting pizza?”
They looked at each other, then at Amanda, then back at me. I think they were almost wondering themselves, or maybe thinking about that had happened at the pizza place. I cursed myself. Why did I have to bring that up? But it was really bothering me.
“Well, we wanted to do something for Amanda, since we never see her that often at home because we are always working. So, we had decided to get Amanda her favorites. Pepsi and those bread things. What are they called? I don’t know. But, then…well, you showed up so we left and went to Maya’s.” Her mother said, looking me deep in the eyes.
I nodded, as if completely understanding. But her answer gave me more questions. Why did they never see her? They were here now. Why did they never get pizza? Who was that Finn guy that Amanda had talked about? He still bothered me a lot.
When she said his name, her parent’s faces just completely blanked and lost all emotion. Why was that name so important and would I ever figure out who Finn was? Was he an old boy friend maybe? Or an ex-husband to her mother? Possibly Amanda’s biological father? But, who knows. I don’t know if this guy sitting in front of me was her real father or not. No one ever really knew until you were told.
The thoughts were running through my head, almost teasing me. Why did she have to have so many secrets that I didn’t know? Well, I couldn’t really say that. I didn’t know anything about her. Much less even one secret. Except maybe the fact that she likes Pepsi and wakes up early. But, that’s all I know about her that others don’t. Well, at least, I don’t think others know her favorite pop.
I looked at her out of the corner of my eye. She was looking down at the text book on her lap, her eyes scanning the pages. She looked-. No. Sam; Sam likes her. But…no!
