Chapter Eleven

Dylan’s P.O.V

School. No, school isnt what bugs me. It lets me get away from family and visit with friends. It’s the homework and projects that get to me. In about an hour, I will have to go to the library for a physics project and that wouldn’t be very fun. Projects never were because Amanda wouldn’t be able to help me understand a project. She was only allowed to help on homework and studying. Which really sucked.

I sat on the empty seat next to Sam and turned to face him. “Hey.”

“Hi.” he mumbled.

“What’s up? Have you talked to Amanda yet like I told you to?” I asked.

He looked down at the floor, blushing. “No. I don’t know if I’m going to.”

“why not?! Just do it, man!” I told him loudly, gaining a dirty look from a few people who were studying in the lunchroom before class started.

“well, I don’t know. You two are always together. Is it…you know, something more?”

“No. She’s tutoring me. We kind of have to be together all the time. Just go for it. If you just talk to her for a while first, I think she’ll like you. I don’t really think she’s heard you talk before because whenever you do, she gives you strange looks, like she’s surprised.” I told him, while retying my shoe.

“Really? Well, I’ll try it…soon.”

“Good.” I told him. Though, something was screaming at me for telling him to do that. But, I couldn’t be a bad friend. If I told him that I maybe, kind of, sort of, probably not have, but most likely did, like her, he would be so let down and disappointed in me. Besides, it was against the bro code to steal a girl from a friend. That, would be horrible.

“So, do you think I have a shot?”

“I don’t know. I don’t really think anyone does, but don’t be discouraged. My advice, is to just not try too hard to get her attention. Just talk about light subjects at first, then get into more heavy stuff and just be yourself. It can’t go wrong.” Lie. Some part of me hoped and strangely prayed that it would go wrong.

His face brightened. “Thanks! That helps a lot!”

He walked away from me, his head held higher, and a smile on his face. I sighed. Why did I have to do that? Why did I have to bring her up? Why can’t I just let him get over her instead of telling him to keep trying. Why can’t I just tell him to get over her and that it’s not going to work? Wait, why am I thinking about this so much?! It’s not like she’s my girlfriend. She’s hot…in an innocent way. Maybe I’m just lusting after her. Yeah, that’s it.

I leaned back, putting my elbows on the table. I saw Amanda’s friend across the lunchroom, and knew what I was going to do immediately. I stood up, walking towards her. When she saw me, she got a panicked look on her face.

“I promise that she hasn’t said anything bad about you! Oh, and I can’t make her stop tutoring you.” She said once I was close enough. I could see a smile trying to slip onto her face.

“What?” I asked, dumbfounded.

She laughed. “Never mind. So, what brings you to this side of the cafeteria?”

I looked around. She was right. This was the loner side. Why does she sit over here? Why would Amanda sit over here? She’s pretty enough to get a ticket into the popular table. Is it because she’s smart and the popular girls are really dumb?

“I was just wondering if you’ve seen Amanda. I have to talk to her because I can’t study with her tonight.” I told her, lying on the spot. I really wanted to talk about Amanda, but I was too chicken to. I have no idea who this girl is, but she’s been by Amanda’s side since elementary school. No one ought to know more about Amanda than her.
