There was only one thing that could cure ‘lonely Saturday night fever’. Or at least, that’s what the guys said. Henry and Ethan were standing in my bedroom, trying to get me to go out with them. I think it’s needless to say I didn’t want to. With all the extreme tutoring going on from Amanda, I wanted to have a night by myself. I even got my mom to get Luke and Brian to leave me alone tonight. Though, me telling her I wanted to be alone didn’t stop her from inviting Henry and Ethan inside.
“Come onnnn, Dylan. You never do anything anymore.” Ethan said. Though I know he was trying to hide it, I caught a hint of a whine in his voice.
“You know, It’s like you’re married. She controls everything about you! Whether you go out, your school work, your thoughts, she would probably talk you out of going out with a girl too. Where’s the jerk we both know, Dylan? He’s still in there, but he’s dying. Come on, man.” Henry said, leaning against my wall. He was more aggravated by the situation than Ethan was. Ethan was just whiney about it.
I looked at both of them. They were my best friends. I could always trust them in the past. So if they told me something now, why not believe it. They said I never did anything anymore, that I was being controlled, they had even called me whipped a while ago. I guess now was a good time as ever to prove them wrong.
I sat up from my former laying position on my bed with a grumble. “Fine. What are we doing?”
Ethan was grinning like a little kid, and almost bouncing on his feet too. Henry was more controlled. His grin was more mischievous. “I’m not saying. You’re coming with us, and you can’t say no to anything we tell you to do. Got it? You have to let loose.” Henry claimed. I had realized a while ago that he was mostly just repeating himself about the ‘let loose’, ‘controlling’, and ‘do nothing’ stuff.
I nodded, pulling on my shoes. I barely knew what I was doing as I was telling my mom I’d be back later with Henry and Ethan. Henry’s arm was around my shoulder. I should have taken that as a sign. I should have known this night wouldn’t be what I thought.
Getting into my car, I realized only Henry had got in after me. Ethan was in his own car.
I started my car, then looked at Henry. “He’s not going to leave his car here?”
“No. We’ve got other things planned. We’re meeting up with Sam too. And no, you can’t complain about that. Just cause he wanted your girl, doesn’t mean he’s not one of us still.”
I ignored what he said about me complaining about Sam. “Fine. I don’t care. I wasn’t going to complain anyway. We’re cool. So where am I going?”
“Just go to Sam’s. We’re meeting up there then having a good night out.”
I looked at him out of the corner of my eye. He wasn’t telling me something.
‘No, Dylan. Just shrug it off. They’re both right. You need to let loose. She is getting to you, controlling you. You can’t let her take over your life. Be like you used to be.’ I thought to myself. I took in a deep breath, hoping I’d get through the night without wanting to strangle someone.

When I pulled up to Sam’s house, I parked on the street, and watched as Henry got out of my car. I continued to sit there. Taking in a deep breath I looked up at the house before me.
Sam lived with both his parents and his little sister. His little sister was the sweetest little girl I’ve ever known, and his parents are sickening cute for each other. They flirt all the time, and look like they are completely in love. It wouldn’t be such a bad thing if I had two parents. But I only have one, and I barely know what that’s like; having two parents who are deeply in love.
