Chapter Thirty Nine
Dylan’s P.O.V
For some reason, I was putting on the scratchy formal shirt and tie once again. Well, I knew the reason. Her name was Amanda. She always knew how to get me to do what she wanted. Whether it was when she was tutoring me or when it was just random things when we were out of school that she wanted me to do. Like going to church with her. She knows I’m not a big fan of it and yet she still makes me go.
I tightened the tie once more, before pulling up the dressy pants for probably the fifth time.
“Mom, where’s my belt?” I called out, waiting for the response I knew I was going to get.
“It’s in your closet, where it’s always been.” She finally called back. I knew she was busy with Brian. He was getting a bath and that was always a chore. He loved to splash so you had to sit there with him with towels and be ready for the water. My mom swears that someday she’s not going to let him take baths anymore. I don’t see it happening anytime soon.
I just turned and went to my closet to look for my belt. After a few minutes of digging I finally found it in the mess. Well, I guess that someday I was going to have a job of cleaning that out. Someday. That day was not today.
I looped the belt into my pants and was relieved that I didn’t have to constantly pull up the uncomfortable pants anymore. I didn’t understand how businessmen wore those clothes all day long, every day. It would drive me nuts.
“Looking snazzy there, Bro.” I heard Luke say from the doorway.
I turned to see him leaning against the doorjamb. For being my older brother, he sure was lazy and irresponsible. He didn’t have a job, he didn’t really do all that great in school, and he just lounged around the house whenever he wasn’t at school. To me, it was as though I was the older one.
“Yeah…” I straightened the tie now, suddenly nervous.
“You’re going to church again?”
“Yeah…” I searched Luke’s face for a reason for being in my room so I wouldn’t have to ask. However, I didn’t see one. “Did you need something?”
“No, just checking in on my little brother.” He paused and looked around my room for a few seconds before adding, “But when were you planning on asking her out, dude?”
That made me stop. We had been acting so much like a couple already that it barely occurred to me that we weren’t. I had left the hospital when she turned me down knowing that I would ask her again when the time was right and so far it just hasn’t been the perfect situation to. “I’m not actually sure. Soon, I guess.”
“But you are going to, right?” He said, one eyebrow raised at my answer.
“Of course, idiot.” I thought about it for a second when a thought came to me, “Why do you care, anyway?”
“Me? Hey, she’s awesome. Nothing else to it. You just need to get your ass in gear and ask her out before someone else does.”
That reminded me of Sam. “Someone else already has.” I said harshly.
The doorbell ended that particular topic. I ran to get it, knowing it was the girl we were talking about. Her bright smile shown when I pulled the door open.
