Chapter Seven
Amanda’s P.O.V
I woke up on a Saturday to my cell phone. I gasped and sat up, staring at the flashing light of the screen. I had actually slept in? On a Saturday? I haven’t done that for a very long time.
I took my phone and put it to my ear, answering it. Bekah, who was the one who had called, didn’t even let me talk. “Anda! We haven’t done anything together for a long time! We’re going to the mall today.” She cried dramatically.
I rolled my eyes, then rubbed my right one with my free hand. “Bekah, why are you so awake right now? No, a better question would be, why am I not? But anyway, sure. I’ll go get ready. Meet you there?”
“Yes. Meet me in front of Barnes and Noble.”
“Okay. I’ll see you soon. Bring your iPod. I like listening to music while shopping.”
“Okay! See you!” she said happily, before I heard the beeping of the dropped call. I set my phone down and begrudgingly got up to take a shower. Why am I so tired?
I was finally pulling into the parking lot of the mall, still yawning. The cold shower hadn’t woken me up. Wait, what time did I go to sleep last night…? Oh. That’s right. I stayed up until at least one in the morning reading a book. The test in History the other day went pretty well. Dylan was freaking out because he got a ninety. I didn’t really get what was so great about that. A ninety to me, is bad.
I walked inside the building, hoping to leave my thoughts of him behind. I saw Bekah standing in front of Barnes and Noble, looking extremely happy. I smiled at her, and laughed as she skipped up to meet me, pulling me into a hug.
“Oh my gosh, Anda, I feel like I haven’t seen you in ages!” She squealed, happily.
I smiled back at her, and just tugged her along with me to go into a store. “I know. It feels the same way to me, Bekah. I know exactly how you feel. I’ve just been so busy with school, and with Dylan to really do anything.”
She sighed. “You can say that again. That boy may be extremely hot, but he’s very annoying and is stealing my best friend from me! We haven’t gone shopping together in at least half a year! Do you know how dramatic that is?!”
“Very?” I guessed.
“Ding, ding, ding! The girl wins a prize!”
I just laughed and walked up to a manikin wearing a pink shirt. It was pretty cute. “Hey, Bekah, what do you think…Of…Oh my gosh, Bekah. What are you doing?!” I hissed when I turned around and saw her looking in a door that clearly said employees only.
“Come here! Look at this!” she whispered to me.
We were in the back of the store, and there were no workers near us, but I was still worried. What if we got caught? What would we say? Oh, we were just looking in here because we were curious and were bored. Or, I wasn’t doing anything. My best friend is just a little hyper and loves to look in closed doors. Oh yeah, like any of that is reasonable.
I walked up to her and hissed, “You’re going to get caught! Get out of there!”
She ignored me and walked into the room, gasping as she went. I went in too, only to try and get her to come out. Maybe people were right. Maybe I was a goody-goody. I mean, it’s not like we can get arrested for just going into an area that was for employees only, right? I mean, how much harm could it do?
I slowly went in after her, but stopping at the sight. There were two walls filled with naked and clothed manikins. How could one store need this many manikins? I mean really. Who? I thought a store only needed like four. Could one store actually need like, fifty? I mean, I guess that cuts the hassle of having to dress and undress a bunch of manikins everyday, but still.
