Chapter One
Amanda’s P.O.V
“This is such bullshit.” he said about five feet behind me.
I sighed. The ‘he’ is Dylan Newman. He is the badass of the school. But from where I stand, he doesn’t look all that badass because I am tutoring him. Yeah, I’m just your everyday nerd who goes to church, and is a goody-two-shoes. So, you can understand why he is swearing at this situation. But, I’ve never really thought of him as a badass. Don’t get me wrong, he’s hot, and he has muscles the size of mountains, but he’s just not that badass. At least not from what I’ve seen of him.
“If you swear in my house, I will decline to tutor you again, you will fail, and be sent to a military academy because your parents will disown you for getting another bad grade.” I said, almost to the air in front of me, since I didn’t look back at him.
I heard him swear under his breath. “I really hate you right now.”
I smiled at the space in front of me as I walked on the sidewalk. “I hate you too, Dylan.”
I was the only one who would accept to being his tutor. Everyone else is afraid he’d beat them up, or stuff them in a boys bathroom, or lock them in a janitor’s closet. There are rumors flying all over the school that he has gone to jail for beating someone up at a party, and not to mention the numerous rumors going around at school. One is that once, when he was a sophomore, a kid looked at him the wrong way, so he grabbed the kid by the neck, shoved him into the nearest boys bathroom, and hurt him in some way, and that when the kid’s friends found him, he was throwing up into the toilet.
I honestly don’t believe this guy would do those things. The only thing he seemed capable of doing, was boring someone to death by not talking, or swearing someone down. Neither of those seem very likely though. He hasn’t done anything to me yet. Though, that might just be his guy ‘heart’ showing he’s not completely horrible and would never punch a girl. Though, I don’t doubt that in his head right now, he is imagining punching me and swearing at me.
“If someone sees me with you, I will sue you.” he muttered. I heard him getting closer to me. I knew he wasn’t happy about this situation.
“Oh boo hoo, big boy. Get over yourself.” I said harshly, walking even faster.
“If I wasn’t afraid of my brother seeing me with you, we would be doing this at my house, and there, I am allowed to swear whenever, and how ever, I want. Got that, church loving nerd?”
“Absolutely. Don’t worry, I’m an only child, and probably according to you, I have no friends.” I said, a little giggle going into my voice. I was talking as if I was talking to a two year old. Slowly, and pronouncing everything.
I could feel his scowl. “I never said that. Nor thought that.”
“Nor? Even I don’t say that.” I said, snorting with laughter.
I heard his shoes slapping on the concrete as he ran towards me. He finally was walking beside me. I saw him studying my face out of the corner of my eye with a scowl on his face. “Are you sure you’re a goody-two-shoes? You sure don’t talk like one.”
I turned my head towards him and gave him my own scowl. “Just be quiet, mister. I am tutoring you, not the other way around. I’m the smart one here.”
He rolled his eyes and we continued on quietly. I pulled my thin white Columbia sweatshirt around me, cursing myself for not bringing something heavier. I also pulled my white knit hat a little further down to cover my ears. I really should have worn something warmer. Even though it’s in the beginning of November, it was supposed to be warmer today, but it’s windy, causing it to drop about twenty degrees.
