My attention was immediately brought to the sound of the door unlocking. I stood up, making my way towards the entrance of the apartment to greet my husband from work.
As he opened the door, he revealed to look.. exhausted. Dark circles were under his eyes and his skin was a slight bit paler than normally.
His periwinkle eyes that were always filled with joy when he returned home, were dark. He closed the door and walked up to me, wrapping his arms around me. I reciprocated, watching as he closed his eyes and laid his head on my chest.
"Darling, you look so exhausted. You should get some rest," I said full of worry. I brought one of my hands to his face, caressing his cheek with my thumb. "I'll be fine. I still have work that needs to be done anyway," he replied.
"Zander, please get some sleep, you're making me worried."
"I'll be okay, I just need to finish writing one chapter. I can sleep after."
He let go of me, heading towards the office. Just as he approached the door, I grabbed his wrist. "Please listen to me. It's no rush, you can do it later." He jerked his wrist from my grasp and proceeded into the room anyway.
"How many hours of sleep did you get last night?" I questioned him. "Probably around three. I worked on outlines and didn't notice the time," he responded, nearing his desk and powering on the computer. I approached him once again, placing my hands on his shoulders to turn him towards me. "No, you need rest. You shouldn't do that to yourself, love." I turned off the computer as he looked at me upsettingly.
His blinking became way slower than normal, as well as his movements. "Do you hear that? Is something ringing?" he asked me. Shit. He's about to pass out. "Zander, sweetie, sit down. You're about to faint."
He raised a brow. "Wha? I didn't here you.." "Sit down, you need to-" And then his entire body fell towards me. I held him tightly by the waist, his eyes were shut firmly. "Zander?!" No response. I picked him up bridal style, bringing him to the bedroom.

It's been almost fifteen minutes since that incident, and Zander still is lying unconscious in my embrace. I glimpse around the room. It's quiet, too quiet. I'm still questioning myself to why Zander had the urge to overwork himself that much. He should've been aware that I told him to take a break for a reason.
My fingers run through his mauve hair. He seems fine, as if he's just sleeping casually, and didn't faint just recently. I turn my gaze out the large windows, which has a good view of the city from the apartment complex. I feel a cold hand grasp onto me, instantly catching my attention.
He still seemed a little spaced out, as Zander's movements were still slow. "You with me?" I asked. He nodded. He brought a hand to his head and tightly shut his eyes. "I feel.. lightheaded." "You fainted. Do you remember from earlier?" He stares into space, trying to recall what happened before the incident. "Yeah, I do remember now. Sorry I didn't listen to you. I should have but I was just felt the need to get work done."
"It's okay. But if you need to sleep more you can. I don't want you to try to overwork yourself anymore." He nodded in understanding. "Okay, but, could you by any chance stay with me?" he asked "Sure."
We both laid down, a blanket draped over us. His hands were on my chest and his head rested on my shoulder. I wrapped my arms around his torso before we both shut our eyes, falling asleep minutes later.
