Authors note**     I sprinkled in some small *b o n u s* ships. Sorry for being absent, the second I had all this time to write I got spotty writer's block and lost all my motivation. I ended up writing this all in one day cause I finally got an idea! Fluff, a bit of angst, I guess - Chaos/Ultra

3000 words

...

Chaos walked into the town with confidence. He had no reason to fear the steves in it. He'd won with ease the last battle. And now Nightmare sent him to hopefully finish the job. Chaos flew over the ledge and landed on the Rainbow House. He cackled to himself as he summoned a fire charge in his hand. Before he could strike anything, before he could be distracted by Rainbow, he was knocked to the ground.

As he crashed into the dirt below, leaving a hole in the ground, he saw him.

"Dirty little..." He murmured, trailing off and staring wide-eyed at him.

He flew above, radiating with power and energy, blocked out by the sun. As he flew at him again, Chaos finally realized there was coldness around him; ice. He angrily melted it with heat, breaking out and flying away before the opposing steve hit the ground. Leaving a larger creator in his wake, Ultra Steve looked up at him with fury. He kicked off the ground and flew to his level in the sky. Chaos was stunned when he finally saw him, eye to eye. He could tell it wasn't Light or Rainbow, yet he looked like when they had once fused before.

The fight went in Ultra's favor, not only because of Chaos's lack of wits but as well as his larger power. Ultra shot ice and water at him with grace, oh-so prepared for this moment. How had they not seen this coming? Chaos asked himself. Ultra, as all the heroes did, drew the fight away from the town and into the marshes behind. Chaos kept his eyes locked onto the new opponent yet he couldn't seem to catch his bearings with this steve.

He couldn't focus on the enemy as he should, looking at the steve and not what the steve was doing. Ultra would glisten and shine, so majestically kicking his ass. He slowly lost focus of his enemy and instead his wounds. He flew lower with each new hit. All the while he fought back, obviously, otherwise the fight would've ended as soon as it started. He couldn't help but feel a rush of adrenaline trying and failing to learn Ultra's moves and fighting. To charge at the steve and dodge his attacks. In the end, he did have to retreat, otherwise, he would be a popsicle.

Ultra did not follow the retreat, watching him fly away low to the ground with crossed arms. He carried his sorry not-so-sorry ass back to the Nightmare Palace. He was met with a smiling Nightmare, which promptly faded into the disappointed and grouchy Nightmare he knew and loved.

"What happened?!" He hissed, looking over his wounds and dragging him inside.

"They recreated Ultra," Chaos said, dreamily. "He's a lot different than I remember."

...

Plague offered to help bandage Chao's wounds, as he had yet to talk to him. He fixed him up happily, making conversation as Nightmare paced angrily in front of them.

"So how does it work? Can you hear Revy and Dark yelling at you in your head?"

"No. I have their memories," Chaos explained "but my consciousness is a fusion of both of theirs. Their consciousnesses don't exist separately, yet I guess I have my own?"

"You have their... memories?"

"Yep"

"Tell me something only they would know!"

Chaos thought for a moment "You and Dark made out in the planning room, like, a year ago."

"Oh... " Plague fluster quickly "kinda forgot about that"
