Dedication - 456 words

Rainbow sat idly as Sabre and Lucas left. He had been summoned not long ago, his voice box fixed in this new dimension. He wondered if now that his human companions were gone he'd be "prayed" on by the very owner of it. He could only hope.

Maybe Nightmare would tell him about this dimension, or comment on his voice being fixed, or just have a conversation together.

Even though he knew none of it would happen, it was for their better to toss love aside. They were enemies. He supposed the utter lust in their minds didn't count for anything. He wished it did, he knew the King longed to.

He knew by how flushed his face was when he finally appeared. He noticed every little detail. He hoped they'd all come together to spell out love and not just hate or lust. He didn't think most "hook-ups" started with a kiss to the cheek.

"They're gone?"

"Mhmm."

Nightmares looked surprised to hear such a familiar voice, surprise turning into a small smile "Your voice is back, huh?"

"Mhmm."

"That's nice... how've you been?"

Rainbow sighed. Despite his new voice he didn't want to quite use it, opting to turn away bitterly.

"Hey, hey, what's wrong?" a cold shoulder "I don't understand, did I... do something?"

"I don't like this, Nightmare" Rainbow huffed "I don't like playing these games. We chat. We fuck. And then what? Why can't we love each other? Why can't we just..."

"Just?"

"Just be together..."

Nightmare sighed. He pulled him into his lap, still sulking, and hugged him. He kissed his cheek.

"I wish it were simple like that."

"Why would you at least tell me why? What's stopping us?"

"You know I can't tell you. That this's out of my control..."

Rainbow sighed, curling up in his arms. Nightmare held him.

"Okay."

"Huh?"

"We're together. I am yours, you are mine. I know it can't be like how we both want this to be but... we can at least be taken by each other."

"Really?"

"Really".

Rainbow sighed "I-Im sorry I..."

"It's drawn one for too long. It's about time we at least commit to each other."

"Hmm" he felt the colorful man hug him, holding his face against him. "I love you."

Nightmare had to hold his breath a moment before humming under his breath "I love you, too."

Their first "love you"s. Rainbow smiled, shutting his eyes. Pulling as close as he could, into the wrath of his lover. After what might have been a minute of silence. Or two. A nervous three, before Nightmare asked "Could you keep talking?"

"Hmm?"

"I wanna hear your voice. I... I missed it."

He smiled, "Of course I can."
