Time wandered the Great Library. He'd walked its tall, lengthy aisles and read most of the books in the Great Library over the generations he'd spent visiting. Although there were plenty of sections he didn't wander and plenty of books that he'd yet to read, he still looked through the fantasy section for a goodie to reread. He was much more into fantasy books than anything else, though he generally just loved to read as a whole. He was considering checking out The Revolt by Dijon Yellow Steve when The Librarian found him.
He and The Librarian were quite close book dorks. Time spent an excessive amount of time with The Librarian and generally at the library. They'd rant to each other about books and The Librarian always had books to recommend to him and was always happy to chatter with him about recent books they've read. Something of an informal book club could describe them. The Librarian smiled at him as he perked up.
"Looking for a book?" She asked.
Time nodded. "I was thinking of rereading Revolt."
"Haven't you read it 30 times now?"
"...Yes."
The Librarian laughed. "I have a book for you. You know the machines they use in the book? There's a book connecting them all to the real machine they're based on."
"Really?"
"The Revolt itself was based off of minecart! Neat isn't it?"
"Minecarts!" Time started to power walk to the non-fiction section "I have to see this"
"The Machines of the Revolt by Ruby Red Steve! It's in machinery!"
"Thank you, Lib!"
"You're welcome!"
...
Time found the book easily. Its fancy golden decals against the leather visibly pleased him. As he was about to leave, he found himself curious; what other books had this author written? He looked through what was a collection of machinery 101s. The book he had was the black sheep of this author's works, it seemed to him, as he groaned at manuals. They did remind him of Sabre, though, but getting him them would most likely be an insult. He's probably read How-To-101s since he could read with his skills in machinery. Either way, one in particular caught his eye. He'd almost missed it but backtracked.
Clock 101; How to Preserve and Repair You're Time Tellers by Ruby Red Steve
Time's face went red. Oh? He looked around hesitantly before slipping the book off of the shelf. He tucked the other book under his arm to skim the section guide. He bit his lip as he closed it. He wasn't one for... Those kinds of books. But how could he resist? It was right in front of him, under the cloak of a shared author.
Not that The Librarian would have a clue what this kind of book would do to a steve like Time, anyhow. She would just see a clock manual... but when you are a clock things can be quite different in your eyes. His guilty pleasure of watching Sabre work came from more than just a fascination his his husband's hobby, after all. Thought Sabre, of course, was none the wiser. He took glances right and left of the aisle in a constantly empty library, before nervously stumbling off the front desk. The Librarian smiled.
"I'm glad you took my suggestion! I know you've never been a non-fiction haver, but I know how much you love The Revolt." She took the books.
"Mhmm. Gotta be one of my favorites!" He said with nervousness.
