One morning, Huckleberry Hound and Snagglepuss were spending some time at the park together. They had taken a nice stroll to the pond to feed the ducks, then stopped in the flower gardens to admire some pretty flowers. Now they were running toward the playground, since Huck wanted to swing on the swings.
"Race ya to the swingset!" he laughed.
"Not if I get there first!" Snag chuckled.
When they got there, Huck immediately sat on the swing as Snag gave him a push. Up and down, the hound went as the swing went higher and higher.
"Wheeeeeeeeeee!!!" he squealed. "Higher, Snag!!"
"Okay!" Snag replied.
And he gave Huck another big push.
"WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!" the hound cheered, as he whooped and laughed happily.
But at that moment, they heard someone calling Huck's name.
"Huckleberry! Can I speak to you?"
Coming into the playground was Mrs. Jones, who was pushing a baby buggy.
"Oh, hi, Mrs. Jones!" Huck cried as he leapt off the swing. "What's up?"
"Well, Huckleberry, I just wanted to ask...oh, who's your new friend?"
"Well, Mrs. Jones, this here's my best friend, Snagglepuss. He recently moved here. Snag, this is Mrs. Jones."
"How do you do, Mrs. Jones?" Snag greeted, shaking Mrs. Jones' hand. "It's an honor to meet you! A pleasure, even!"
"It's nice to meet you too, Snagglepuss!"
Huck smiled. "We always love to stop by Mrs. Jones' place on Halloween! She makes the best doggone treats!"
Snag then noticed the baby in the buggy. She was cooing and gurgling and waving her tiny arms.
"Oooh! Who's this little one?" the lion asked.
"This is my little niece, Bebe!" Mrs. Jones answered. "I was just taking her for a little walk around the park while my sister gets us lunch!"
"Little niece?" Huck asked. "Can I see her?"
He went over to the buggy, and took a look inside. There sat the baby, waving her arms, and cooing happily.
"Awwwwwwww, ain't you the cutest?" the hound cried. "You're so adorable! By the way, my name's Huckleberry!"
"Dabababa!" Bebe babbled, reaching toward Huck's nose.
Huck started to giggle. "Hey, that tickles!" he chuckled.
"Would you boys like to do me a big favor?" Mrs. Jones asked.
"Why certainly!" Snag replied. "What can we do you for, ma'am?"
"What can we do for you?" Huck added.
"My sister and I are going shopping, so I was wondering if you two could look after Bebe until we return tonight?"
"You can count on us!" Huck beamed. "I'd do anything for a neighbor! And I'm good with babies!"
"And I'll help too!" Snag added.
"Wonderful!" Mrs. Jones grinned. "Make sure to take her buggy, and remember to feed her, give her a bath, and make sure she's happy, okay?"
"Got it!" the duo chorused. Then they looked at each other and burst out laughing.
Just then, Mrs. Jones heard a voice from outside the park. "Hey, sis! Ready to go?"
"That's my sister! Gotta go! Take care of Bebe for me, okay? Bye!"
