One morning, Huckleberry Hound was bouncing on his pogo stick on his way to the zoo. He usually went there in his car, or on his scooter, but today was such a nice day, he decided to bounce there instead.
"I hope I get to see all sorts of animals today!" he said to himself. "The zoo is one of my favorite places!"
As soon as he got there, he jumped off his pogo stick, and went inside. The first animals he saw were big cats. He couldn't help but imitate the lions. Rrrrrooooooar!!" he cried. Then he started to laugh as he made his way to the cheetahs. But then he heard the cheetahs. "Meow!"
"Awwwww, what a sweet little noise!" he said. "They sound like kitty cats!"
After looking at the tigers, he moved on to the elephants. As he looked at them, he came across a sign that said, "Elephants are the world's largest land mammals."
"Leapin' lizards!!" Huck shouted. "I didn't know that!"
The elephants let out some loud trumpets. Huck couldn't help laughing. "I guess that's elephant talk for howdy!"
He then made his way towards the hyenas. "I think I know what I can do for them," he said. "I'll show them my silly face!" And he turned to the hyenas, and stretched out his mouth, and stuck out his tongue! "Guh, guh, guh, guh, guh!"
That made the hyenas laugh. They laughed and laughed, and were unable to stop. Huck couldn't help himself, and he too erupted into laughter, not only because he found his goofy face funny, but because the hyenas were laughing so much, he just had to join in! "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I don't know why, but every time the hyenas laugh...HAHAHAHAHA!! I do too!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!"
As soon as he finally calmed down from laughing so much, he saw some giraffes. He stood on his tiptoes to try to stand as tall as them. Then he saw the hippos swimming in the water. "Hip, hippo-ray for hippos!" he joked. Then he burst out laughing. "Get it? Hip hippo-ray for hippos?"
Then he walked over to another enclosure where a troupe of monkeys were running around in the grass and swinging in the trees. Huck couldn't help but jump up and down and wave his arms just like a monkey as one lumbered up to the bars of the cage and chattered at him.
"Eek! Eek!" the monkey cried.
"And an eek, eek to you too!" Huck laughed. Then he broke up laughing again! "Huhuhuhuhuh! Them thar monkeys are just absolutely HILARIOUS!!!"
After that, he made his way over to the aviary, where he saw a parrot. "Hello, Mr. Parrot!" he said.
"SQUAWK! Hello, Mr. Parrot!"
Huck began to giggle. "The funny thing about parrots is that they repeat everything you say!"
"SQUAWK! The funny thing about parrots is that they repeat everything you say!"
Huck broke into laughter before he made his way over to an exhibit he's never seen before! "Oooooh, a new exhibit!" he cried as he went over to see what was inside. When he took a look, there stood a large kangaroo.
"Well butter my biscuits!" Huck exclaimed. "It's a kangaroo! The highest hoppers from the land down under!"
The kangaroo bounced up and down inside his exhibit. "Hop! Hop! Hop-hop!" he cried happily.
Huck just had to giggle. He found the sound of it pretty funny. "That's a funny noise!" Then he began to hop around himself! "Hop! Hop! Hippity hop! Hop! Hop! Hippity-hop! Boing! Boing!" He laughed as he bounced around the exhibit.
But then, the zookeeper led the kangaroo out of the exhibit. Huck turned around to see what happened.
"Mr. Zookeeper," he said. "Why are you bringing the kangaroo out here?"
