One morning, Huckleberry Hound was at home, playing with his puppy dog, Pudgy. He had been busy at the studio for the last couple of days, but since it was his day off, he decided to take some time to play with his favorite puppy. He was waving a squeaky toy that looked like a bumpy red ball over Pudgy's head, and the puppy was jumping up and down, wagging his tail excitedly.
"Going...going..." Huck said as he squeaked the toy a couple of times. "Gone!" He tossed the toy across the room. "Go get it, Pudgy!"
Pudgy ran across the room and caught the toy in his mouth, then brought it back to Huck.
"Good boy, Pudgy!" he praised. "That was great!"
Pudgy leapt into Huck's arms, and dropped the toy as he started licking him on the cheek.
Huck broke into a giggle fit. "Hehehehehe! Cut it out!" he laughed. "That tickles!"
But at that moment, the telephone rang. Huck went over to pick it up, even though Pudgy was still licking him.
"Hello, this is Huckleberry Hound speaking!"
"Ah, Huckleberry! Just the hound I wanted to speak to!"
Huck looked over at Pudgy with a surprised expression. "Gosh! It's Mr. Brown! The principal of the elementary school!" He lifted the phone back to his ear. "Howdy there, Mr. Brown! Uh, what can I do for ya'?"
"Remember when you put on that play of the Three Little Pigs a couple of years ago to help raise money for a field trip?"
"Yeah, so, what is it this time?"
"Well, the school board met just yesterday and we've decided that it's best that we need to build a bigger kindergarten classroom since our classes this fall will be much larger than last year! We've already hired two new teachers, but there still isn't enough space for all the new kindergarten students. We need to raise a little money to help fund the expansion, so would you like to help us out?"
"You bet!" Huck smiled. I'll come up with a new play, and it'll be bigger and better than ever before!"
"Perfect!" Mr. Brown replied. "I'm sure that you'll come up with another story that the children will love to see. I look forward to seeing it too! And of course, the art teachers are happy to help supply you with anything you need for costumes and set design!"
"Okey dokey! Huck said. "Well, I'd better round up the gang and get some ideas going. See you around!"
Huck hung up the phone and grabbed Pudgy's leash before putting it around his puppy. "Come on, Pudgy! We gotta round up the gang so they can help us put on a play!"
And as they went outside, the hound started dancing down the block as he started to sing a little tune.
"A-way, a-way, a-way...I'm gonna put on a happy little play! Hey, hey!"
Soon he reached the park, and led Pudgy toward the old oak tree where the gang liked to gather together.
"Hiya, fellers!" Huck called.
"Greetings, Huck!" Snagglepuss replied.
"What's up?" Dixie asked.
"Is there something that our community needs us for again?" Hokey Wolf wondered.
"That's it!" Huck replied. "We've been asked to put on another play for the kidlets, just like we did when Yogi and Boo-Boo were still livin' here in town."
"You put on a play?!" Snag's eyes lit up with joy. "Oh goody! Oh boy, oh boy! What was it? Hamlet?"
Huck laughed. "Nope! We did the Three Little Pigs!"
