When we last left Huckleberry Hound and the gang, they were in a pretty scary situation, with Pierre having captured our hero with the help of an old foe; former police officer Winkle. Now Huck's Star Locket had led the gang right to where he was being held captive, and they were about to rescue him. Getting him out of the cage would be easy, but sneaking out of the bad guys' lair would be tricky.
"Shee! This is almost too easy!" Jinks groaned as he grabbed the key off of the wall and unlocked the cage.
"Yeah, it's a good thing he forgot to take the key with him!" Huck replied. "But then again, I bet he didn't count on you fellers comin' to save me!"
"So, it was the former officer that got fired for trying to arrest you for things you didn't even do?" Hokey asked.
"Officer Winkle was the worst!" Pixie groaned.
"He was always trying to pin something on us!" Dixie added.
"We finally caught Pierre at the film festival, when he tried to arrest us again. That's how he got fired," Jinks explained.
"Now, let's get out of here!" Huck told the others as he jumped out of the cage.
"Yeah, we'd best scram!" Snag agreed. "Run away, beat it, scat, even!"
And they started making their way toward the stairs, but at that moment, they heard voices coming from down the hall!
"They're coming!" Jinks squeaked. "What do we do now?"
"I have an idea!" Huck replied.
He rubbed his Star Locket, and a box of trick gadgets appeared in his paws! He reached in and grabbed some blue paint, and an egg. He painted the egg blue, and placed it in the cage, before locking it up.
"Watch this!" he whispered.
The gang hid in the entrance to the stairwell when Pierre and Winkle arrived, trying to stay as silent as possible.
"I have not heard a peep out of Huckles-berry," Pierre was saying. "Per-haps he's finally cracked up!"
"That hound should be in here still!" Winkle grinned. "Oh, how I longed for this day! I finally got..."
And then they saw the egg, thinking it was Huck!
"He turned into an egg!" Winkle shouted. "HOORAY!! Now we don't have to worry about him anymore!"
"Ohhhh, what a happy day!" Pierre added. "At last, that Huckles-berry is ours!! Ha, ha, ha! We will be the richest stars in the world at last...now that ze' little mutt is out of the way!!"
But they didn't know that they had just been tricked. The gang was making their getaway up the stairs as quickly as they could before the villains could notice. They ran, and ran until they were back up to the surface, out the door and as far away as their legs could carry them.
"Hahaha!" Huck laughed. "We fooled em'!"
"I hope we don't hear from those two for a long time!" Jinks commented.
"Besides, who would fall for a trick like that?" Pixie giggled.
"Only complete idiots!" Dixie chuckled.
That gave everyone a good laugh.
"Yeah, but let's get back to Hill Street Neighborhood before they have a chance to catch up to us!" Hokey cried.
"I'm with you, Hokey!" Ding-a-Ling agreed.
"Exit, stage right...runnin' all the way!" Snag finished.
The gang didn't stop until they were back in town. They were pretty tired, but they agreed that perhaps a nice dinner at Elmore's Grill would soothe their nerves. They decided to head in that direction and were soon seated at a nice little table next to the little window that allowed customers to see into the kitchen.
