One day, Mr. Post, the mailman was pedaling his bicycle over to Huckleberry Hound's house to deliver a very special package to him. Now normally, Mr. Post would walk, but today was nice and sunny, so he figured he'd take his bike for a ride this time. He pulled up outside the front gate and rang his bike bell.

"Special delivery for Huckleberry Hound!" he called out.

The front door opened and Huck came dashing out. "Oh goody goody gosh!" he shouted excitedly. "I wonder what it could be!"

"Here you go, Huck!"

"Golly, Mr. Post! I didn't know you could ride a bike!"

"I sure do, Huck! Especially when it's such a beautiful day like it is today!"

"I have a bike too, but I'm a mite wobbly on it, so I usually ride my scooter instead. And besides, I think I'm faster on my scooter! It's also really fun!"

"Does it have a bell, like mine?" Mr. Post asked.

"No," Huck replied. "Mine has a horn. And it sounds really funny when I honk it!"

"Oh, I see!"

Huck took the package and glanced at it. "Well hush my mouth! It's from cousin Wooley! I ain't heard from him in a while!"

He said goodbye to Mr. Post as he continued on his way, then he ran in the house and quickly opened the package, eager to see what was inside.

"Oooh!" the hound cried. "A box inside a box! I wonder what it could be! Oh! There's a letter too!" He unfolded it and began to read it.

Dear Huckleberry,

Greetings from Switzerland! I've been on a vacation in a quaint little village at the foot of the Alps, and I wish you could be here to see it. It's absolutely beautiful, and it's really breathtaking! I'm going to document the latest expedition up the mountain along with a team of geologists in a few days, and I'm hoping that the local newspaper will do a story on our endeavors! I know how much you love chocolate, so I sent you a box of the finest Swiss chocolates. They come in all kinds of flavors too! I know you'll enjoy them very much!

I hope things are going well for you and the rest of the family. I'll be coming to North Carolina in a few months to visit the family. I'll be sure to find you too, wherever you are. I heard you're in showbiz now. I hope that's going well for you!

I'll see you soon, cousin!

Wooley.

"Awwww, Wooley!" Huck beamed. Then he opened the box and took a look at the chocolates. They smelled so sweet and delicious! He popped one in his mouth.

"Mmmmmmmm! Scrump-a-licious!" he said, licking his lips.

As Huck sat down at the table and looked over the letter again, he thought hard about the postal system. Mail...letters...packages...postcards...it was a wonderful invention that helped bring people together when they were so far away from each other. It was a way to help others...to spread happiness.

"I know I was a mailman in one of my cartoons, but I sometimes wonder what it had been like if I had been a mailman for real," he said to himself. "I can only imagine how much joy I'd bring with every letter. Folks hearin' from their families and friends...ain't nothin' better than that."

That night, when Huck went to bed, he placed the letter on his bedside table and yawned. He snuggled under the covers, closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep. Soon he was snoring away as he hugged his teddy bear against his cheek. And his dreams carried him higher and higher...and the next thing he knew, he was standing in a post office! He was wearing a blue mailman's cap on his head, and he was filling his mailbag with lots of letters, postcards and packages. Little did he know though, he was going to be delivering to some very special people!
