One sunny summer morning, Huckleberry Hound was running down the block with his best friend Snagglepuss and his puppy dog Pudgy, whom he'd been walking on the leash.

"Race ya to the playground!!" Huck cried, laughing.

Pudgy barked happily and scampered alongside the blue hound as the pink mountain lion tried to keep up.

"I bet I can run faster than you!" Snag chuckled.

Huck laughed. "Looks like Pudgy's ahead of both of us!"

"But of course! Four legs are better than two!"

The duo laughed. But then, Snag looked to his side, and stopped to see that stapled on a nearby tree was a flyer. Curious, he stopped to read it.

"Tomorrow, Hill Street Fair! Come one, come all! Games, rides, food, fun, and much more!" His face lit up with happiness. "Oh joy...oh happy day! Look, Huck!"

The hound stopped and turned around. "What is it, Snag?"

"Look at this flyer!!"

Huck went over, and read the flyer. "Hill Street Fair!? WHOOPEE!! We've just gotta go!!" He jumped up and down and did a happy dance. "Gosh! I wonder if Brookshire's Watermelon Contest will be there this year!"

"It wouldn't surprise me!" Snag smiled. "After all, summertime and watermelons go hand in hand...in foot, even!"

"Shucks, I oughtta enter the watermelon I've been growin' in my backyard!" Huck beamed. "It must be big enough to enter the contest by now! I've been growin' it all year long!" He leaned over and patted Pudgy on the head as the puppy panted. "You excited about the fair too, little buddy?"

Pudgy wagged his tail and barked.

"We should alert the rest of our motley crew...our friends, even!" Snag cried.

"Oh, yeah!" Huck shouted. "Let's go!"

So they ran off to tell the rest of the gang, who were all hanging out at the park. Of course, that's where Huck and Snag had been going all along, so it wasn't hard to find everyone.

"Hi, guys!!" the duo chorused.

"Hello there, Huck!" Hokey Wolf cried.

"Hiya, Snag!" Mr. Jinks called. "What's up?"

"We just read a flyer, and it said that the Hill Street Fair is tomorrow!!"

"The fair!?" Pixie and Dixie both shouted. "WHOOPEE!!"

"Say, you're entering the watermelon contest, aren't you?" Jinks asked.

"I sure am!" Huck beamed. "I've been growing it for a long time!"

"I can't wait to go on some rides!" Dixie cried.

"Don't forget the games!" Pixie added.

"And the music!" Huck beamed.

"Music?" Hokey shouted. "That reminds me, I was just alerted by Mr. Post about an hour ago that you're scheduled to perform at the fair too!"

"I am? Oh, goody goody gosh!!"

"I'm sure we're all gonna have lots of fun!" Snag beamed. "It'll be fantastic, wonderful, entertaining, even!"

The next day, Huck and the gang had gathered nice and early to go to the fair, but first, they had to get the watermelon off of the vine, and onto Huck's wagon. The melon was very heavy, so after Huck snipped it off of the vine with his pruning shears, he had to have Hokey, Jinks and Snag all help him lift it into the wagon. Soon the melon was all loaded up, and the meeces placed some newspaper around it so it wouldn't' bump and jostle around while Huck dragged the wagon along over the sidewalks.
