Over the past couple of days, Huckleberry Hound had been doing his best to not break into huge crying fits whenever something went wrong or if something sad happened. He had been pretty emotional for most of his life, but now that he was growing older (but still 25 years old), and learning some good advice from his friends (unlike the other kids from his hometown who mostly picked on him), he was getting much calmer and learning how to take things in stride, much the same way he always did on his TV show. He realized that by acting that way on camera, it was really starting to help him approach things more easily off-camera as well! What a wonderful revelation, Huck thought, and the gang was usually there to encourage him to keep up the good work.
"I'm feeling a lot better since I'm starting to not break into tears as much as I used to," the hound beamed. "It feels real good to be happy!"
"And if you keep taking things in stride," Mr. Jinks added. "You'll feel even better!"
"Yeah, I like feelin' calm," Huck nodded. "Yep, just gotta learn to un-lax and take it easy-like."
"By the way, how long has this gone for?" Hokey asked.
"Well, I used to break into crying fits ever since I was a pup. I couldn't even help it when I moved here as well, considerin' that it was the biggest change of my life, but I feel like I've really grown up a lot these past couple of years."
"Yeah, keep it up, and you'll feel better than ever!" Ding-a-Ling smiled.
"You're right, fellers," Huck replied. "So, since it's a right beautiful mornin', what should we do today since we finished filmin' this week's batch of shows already?"
"Maybe we could go to the park, or to the game center," Jinks suggested.
"Or the malt shop!" Dixie added.
Just then, the window swung open, and the curtains whipped in the breeze. Huck shook head head and sighed as he walked over to the window to close it.
"Doggone window latch," he muttered. "I could've swore I locked it last night!"
He was about to shut the window, when he noticed a tiny little butterfly flying into the house. It was the cutest butterfly he'd ever seen, with bright blue wings, and big orange and white spots and black stripes! It fluttered around and landed right on the hound's nose!
"Well, hello there!" he said to the butterfly. "Where did you come from?"
The butterfly opened and closed her wings as she remained perched on his nose, causing him to giggle. The gang also began to laugh, thinking that Huck looked pretty funny with a butterfly sitting on his nose.
"I never knew Huck was a big fan of butterflies!" Pixie beamed..
"Are you kiddin'?" Huck chuckled. "I love butterflies! I love all kinds of critters, actually. My folks taught me all about how precious nature is, and that we should take good care of it."
"So, what do you think you should do with this little butterfly?" Dixie asked.
Huck glanced out the window and noticed a large blue jay perched in a tree outside on his lawn. He quickly closed the shutters and looked at the butterfly, which was still flapping her wings. "I reckon she was about to become lunch for that bird out there," he guessed. "Shucks, I know birds has to eat, but who would wanna eat such a beautiful creature like you, little butterfly?"
"So that means..."
"Yep! I'm gonna keep this little butterfly!"
"Oh, Huck...you can't be serious!" Jinks exclaimed.
"I am!" Huck replied. "This butterfly needs a home, safe away from them hungry birds!"
"Oh boy," Jinks groaned.
