One morning, Huckleberry Hound was out for a walk through town, when he came to the toy store, and saw something in the window. It was a doll that looked just like him! It had smooth velvety blue fur, cute little eyes, a little yellow hat, floppy black ears, a silky red bow tie and stubby little paws!

"Well, how about that!" he cried. "It's a doll that looks just like me!"

Right next to the toy, a sign in the window read, "NEW! HUCKLEBERRY HOUND TALKING DOLLS! GET YOURS TODAY!"

"These dolls talk!?" Huck cried. "Ohhhh, I gotta see this!!!"

He ran into the store, and right on a shelf were the talking dolls, all lined up in neat little rows. He grabbed one, and pulled the string on its back, just above its tail.

"A houuuund dog howdy to ya!" the doll said as the pull string withdrew into its back.

Huck began to giggle. "How cute!"

He pulled the string again, and this time the doll said a different phrase. "Well I do declare!"

Huck nodded. "Yep, I do say that a lot, don't I?"

He pulled it again, and this time, the doll did Huck's favorite scat! "Boop-oop-a-doop!"

Huck burst out laughing. "I love this doll! I think I wanna buy it!"

"The great Huckleberry Hound wants to buy his own doll of himself?" a girl asked, looking puzzled. "I'd say that's a little egotistical, wouldn't you?"

"But I love it!" Huck protested. "It's the most adorable darn thing ever!"

He went to the register, and paid four dollars for the doll. It was a good thing too, because a few seconds later, a whole swarm of kids came running over to the shelf and snatching up every Huck doll they could get their hands on!

"I want one!" a little girl shouted.

"Let me have one too!" a boy yelled.

Soon, all the dolls were off the shelf as the kids came racing to the register, holding out their money and shouting to the salesman.

"Okay, okay, kids! One at a time!"

The kids formed a line as they paid for the dolls, but, when they turned around, there stood Huck with his doll. He pulled the string, and the doll said, "You're my best friend!"

"Hey!" a boy shouted. "There's the real Huckleberry Hound!"

"It's him!!" a girl shrieked excitedly. "Let's get his autograph!!"

The kids all cheered as they ran up to Huck to get his autograph.

"Well, looks like I've got some autographs to sign!" Huck laughed. "Now where's my pen? Oh, there it is!"

"Huckleberry!" a boy called out. "I love your show! I have your cereal spoons too!"

"I just got your new record!" a little girl called out. "I love hearing you sing!"

"We watch you every day after school!"

"You're the funniest!"

"I wanna hear you boop-oop-a-doop!"

"And I wanna hear you howl!"

Huck was signing autographs as he let out a howl, and he threw in a "boop-oop-a-doop!" On some of the autographs, he planted a little kiss after stamping them with his paw print, and a few of the kids ran up to him and gave him big hugs, which he returned. As soon as the crowd had left, Huck was feeling satisfied as well as astounded. Never in his wildest dreams had he ever imagined that one day they'd make dolls of him, or put his image on other kinds of toys, or cereal spoons, or even have him record a record! Fame sure came with a lot of side gigs!
