Chapter 27

Ninja's POV

"The ultimate battle. The battle that would end all battles. It feels like ages ago." Kai chuckled softly to himself before continuing. "After the Golden Ninja defeated the Overlord, much of Ninjago City was in ruin. It was a time to reflect on our past and build for our future. Ninjago City soon became New Ninjago City. And it became the center of great technological advancements. But without an enemy to fight, the age of the ninja came to an end-" He explained when the film suddenly changed, now showing Jay walking into the bathroom whilst someone hummed in the shower.

"Hey! How about a little privacy, you-?" Kai yelled at Jay on the film to which the former Red Ninja felt his face flush a deep red.

"Whoa! This isn't supposed to be in here. Lights please!" He called and the lights quickly turned on, showing him his giggling students. He tried to ignore them and instead detach the film from the projector, but the film naturally decided to be a butt and roll out of his grasp into the middle of the classroom. "Ugh! Seriously?" He groaned in frustration and was about to go and collect it when the door burst open as a child rushed in. Oh no, what now?!

"Come quick! Mr. Zane's on the fritz!" The student called and everyone quickly rushed out after the boy. Kai swore under his breath before rushing after his students. Whenever they got this excited, it never led to anything good. As they neared Zane's classroom, Kai saw Cole and his class rushing over before Cole slammed the door open, revealing Zane dancing on his desk, his movements stocky and his face twisting in pain as his body moved on its own accord.

"What's going on here?" Cole demanded angrily, but the students paid him no heed as they watched Zane dance on his desk.

"Brad got an ultra remote from New Ninjago City and it's controlling Mr. Zane." One of the girls explained excitedly, not seeing anything wrong with anything even as Zane whimpered in pain. Cole growled in frustration before pushing a few of the students gently aside and taking Brad's remote.

"How do you turn this thing off?" He grumbled as he tried to turn off the small device, but nobody answered him and nothing he was doing was working.

"Hurry up, Cole. My liquid spirit level is making me less level." Zane warned Cole, urging Cole to press the buttons more urgently until he finally decided to smack it against the desk causing it to break and stop controlling Zane who slowly sat down on the ground with a sigh of relief.

"Mr. Cole is the worst." One of his students grumbled and Cole turned to them angrily.

"I heard that." He hissed just as the bell rang. The children didn't waste another moment and rushed out the door, crashing into Cole as they went before disappearing down the hall. "Ah, recess. My favorite time." Cole sighed as he slumped onto the floor next to Zane.
Kai sighed as well before walking over to the two hoisting them back onto their feet and leading them to the teachers' lounge as the students played outside. It was hard to think that they, the most beloved ninja in all of Ninjago had been reduced to your usual teachers who were often shown even less respect than a cockroach. This is not to say they didn't like their job, they did! But they had loved being ninja and on days like today when their students refused to cooperate and made their lives actual hell they longed for it more than others.
The three went into the lounge and Cole immediately went for the fridge, grabbing Jay's pudding before sitting on the couch and scarfing it down. Zane sat down next to Cole as Kai crashed into a lone chair, listening to the steaming sound of Sensei Wu's huge tea machine. Not long after a comfortable silence had enveloped the room did Jay come barging in, spoon in hand as he threw open the fridge with a smile before scowling at the empty shelves inside.

"All right! Who took my pudding cup? My name was clearly written on it." Jay yelled angrily as he spun towards the rest of the group in the teacher's lounge before stopping at Cole who was happily eating what could only be his pudding.
