CHAPTER 16: FAILURE
Vincent Florence
Well, I got Archie. That makes my hunt even harder because I know very little about him. He isn't much of a talker, just like Dorian. The most I know about him is that he loves to watch people fight and doesn't like his parents.
Over the following days, I kept track of small details that Archie does. He wipes his glasses several times a day. I also noticed that Archie doesn't like it when his sweaters are covered in lint. There have been times when he'll fixate on his sweater and pick off lint.
So in the end, I got a glasses cleaning kit, a lint roller, and a few other trinkets that sound fun. I wrapped it in a large box and was ready for Christmas.
Meanwhile, I walked by Milton Livington. He signaled for me to move over to the side into a small hallway.
"Here, I found this for you." Milton handed me another manila folder.
"What is it?" I asked.
"It's about the Carringtons." He whispered. I tucked the folder into my book bag. "And then there's this. It's not much to go off on, but there is something about the Remingtons." Milton handed me a small envelope.
"Thank you." I said.
"I was never here." Milton said as he slipped out of the hallway and walked away from our spot. Good to know that he's still keeping his end of his deal. Meanwhile, I've now gotten two more secrets. Only two families to go.
Tavia and Dorian had called me a few days before the party to help set up decorations. Because it's impossible to bring in a physical pine tree into the common room, we opted for a plastic one that lights up.
"I have a question." I said.
"Yeah?" Tavia asked, wrapping some streamers around her breasts.
"Who restocks the food? Someone is always cooking something here." I said.
"Archie does. He spends the most time here, so he'll come in on Sunday nights and restock food that he buys from the kitchen."
"He must really love this place." I remarked.
"It's essentially his home. It's kind of all of our homes. Including you." Tavia replied.
I knew this place was important to everyone. But I never knew it was that important to them. They already have strained relationships with their parents. This is the only place where they can feel like a family.
While the rest of the group was busy complementing each other's ugly sweaters, I sat on a stool and kept thinking about the new pieces of information about the student council I received. After this, there will only be two people left to go, which are the Kensingtons and Barringtons.
