CHAPTER 23: VERITAS
Vincent Florence
Headmistress Avianna Clemont's office is located on the second tallest tower in the academy. And it's located on the southern wing of the school, opposite from the student council tower. Essentially, the student council is higher than the headmistress herself.
From what I can comprehend, the student council focuses on making the atmosphere of the school better. Meanwhile, the headmistress does all the managerial duties. For example, the student council will vote to raise funding for a club. The headmistress will sign off on it and contact people to buy materials.
The headmistress also ensures that the learning program is up to date. Whether it's lesson plans, or making sure we have the right books, it's all up to her. Afterall, she's in charge of Auburn Brights Academy, the most prestigious academy in the world. There's so much weight on her shoulders.
Right before I could knock on the headmistress' door, it opened on its own.
"Come in!" Headmistress Avianna called out. As the door opened all the way, I stepped into the office.
The grand office had walls covered in bookshelves and baroque paintings hung on the walls. In the center of the wall ahead of me was a grand desk. There sat the headmistress.
Avianna Clemont had light gray hair, with streaks of white. Despite her age and hair, she still looked young, with no wrinkles on her face or major signs of aging. In fact, I'd say that she looks younger than many 30 year olds I've seen.
"You asked for me, ma'am." I said, fully stepping into the room.
Avianna looked up, piercing me with her sly eyes. "Yes, come in!" She signaled for me to walk up to her desk. As soon as I approached, I noticed she was wearing small reading glasses that were perched on the bridge of her nose.
I stood in front of her desk, waiting for her to look up and acknowledge me. After she finished writing something with her pen and let out a huff, she finally looked up.
"You're probably wondering why you're here." She said. I nodded. "Why don't you sit." She said. I agreed and sat on one of the two seats in front of her desk.
"Am I in trouble?" I asked.
"Oh, goodness no!" She chuckled a bit at this. "It's been a long time since we've talked. I remember when I first met you. You were just a small sprout, waiting to grow." She said.
"Uh..." I stuttered out. I have no idea where this was going. But at least I know that I didn't do anything wrong.
"And now here you are, on the student council. I knew I made the right call to select you to be the recipient for the first scholarship." Headmistress said.
