Chapter 24: AFTERLIFE

𝔸𝕌𝕋ℍ𝕆ℝ'𝕊 ℕ𝕆𝕋𝔼: 𝐆𝐮𝐲𝐬, 𝐢𝐭𝐨 𝐧𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐤𝐚𝐡𝐢𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐧𝐢𝐲𝐨.

"I only want you and Daddy Brendt to marry because I thought you love him," Lyrae cried as she felt very sorry for me. "I didn't know that you're doing it for me-to make me happy."

"Of course, Lyrae. Mommy will do anything just to make you happy," sabi ko naman sa kanya.

"But, Mommy..."

Kumawala siya sa pagkakayakap ko at tiningnan ako nang mabuti. Her small soft hand reached out to touch my cheek. It made me smile, feeling her warmth on me.

"Seeing you happy will also make me happy," Lyrae unfeignedly told me.

My daughter's words warmly embraced my heart. I am deeply touched.

I let Ashley take care of Lyrae while I was looking for Brendt's contact on my phone to call him and put everything to end. Suddenly, his name popped out because of his incoming call.

"Hello?" I said as I answered his call.

"I'm home," he said. "Where are you and Lyrae?" he asked and I can hear how worried he is.

"Nandito kami kina Ashley. Ash invited Lyrae and I to have a sleepover. Gustong maka-bonding ni Ash ang pamangkin niya," pagdadahilan ko na lang.

"Well, then uhm...can I pick you up there?" nag-aalangan niyang tanong sa akin.

If I'm going to end things between me and Brendt, I should tell him personally. I don't want to tell him through call or messages.

"Okay. I'll wait for you. Just text or call me if you're already here."

"Okay. Bye," he ended the call.

Bumaba naman ako sa may tanggapan para doon na hintayin si Brendt. Ayoko nang pumunta pa sa kwartong tutulugan ni Lyrae dahil baka maudlot pa ang kanyang pagtulog.

Tumambad sa akin si Kuya David at Kuya Carisle na nagtatawanan habang inaayos ni Kuya David ang kanyang sapatos.

It seems like they're ready to ruin a girl's life in just one night.

I immediately warned them about their plans for tonight as soon as I reached them.

"Sands, don't worry about us okay?" sabi naman ni Kuya David sa akin at ginulo ang aking buhok.

"I'm not worried about the two of you. I'm worried about those girls who will suffer because of you," paglilinaw ko naman sa kanila. "Why don't you just hunt the girl you want to spend your whole life with and not just for one night?"

"Go and tell that to David. I'm fine and already taken now," sabi naman ni Kuya Carisle at tinaas ang kanyang dalawang kamay. "Alam niyo namang may nakatadhana na sa 'kin."

Kuya Carisle's bound to get married to the girl whom Tito Warren arranged him with. I heard that Tito Warren is looking for a girl who can make Kuya Carisle amenable. But for Ashley and I, we doubt that someone can turn him into that. It seems so impossible. He's not even obeying his parents, pinatapon na siya rito sa Pilipinas pero wala pa ring nangyari at mas lumala pa siya. We only think that he'll rebel more kapag itinali siya sa isang babae.

Kuya David snorted as he laugh. "You speak like you're a fan of destiny," he joked to Kuya Carisle.

"Who knows? Maybe we'll be like our cousin and her husband who's going to have a happily ever after. After all, they're also arranged before," pabiro niyang sabi.
