the music in my earbuds blocked all of my surroundings. i rode my bike around the neighborhood for as long as i could before i had to be home. i didn't want to have to face the sadness that was waiting for me.

this was always a tough time in my life. it was time for my dad to leave again. i had no reason to be angry because what he is doing for our country is great, but i just get really worried and i miss him a lot.

i decided it was about time for me to head home and say my goodbyes since my dad would be leaving tomorrow.

as i got closer to my house i saw an unfamiliar car parked in the driveway.

"i'm home!" i shouted as i walked in through the back door.

"in here" my dad called from the kitchen.

i made my way into the kitchen and i saw my dad standing across from a young guy.

"ky, this is cameron, gina's son. you remember him don't you?" my dad asked.

i nodded and spoke,"yes but where is gina?"

gina was like the aunt i never had since both of my parents were the only children in their family.

"that's the thing. gina and i have decided it would be a good idea for you to stay with cameron in california this summer." dad explained.

"so you're expecting me to just leave my entire life behind this summer just to go stay with some random guy we don't even know?" i complained.

"kylie don't be rude" my dad warned.

"i'm sorry but this just isn't fair and it doesn't make any sense." i groaned.

"well life isn't fair and it's all going to make sense to you some day. so for the time being i need you to go pack because you are leaving early tomorrow morning."

i ran up to my room and slammed my door because i was furious. first my dad was leaving but now apparently so am i.

i went into my closest and pulled out two suit cases. i filled them with clothes and toiletries.
when i was finished packed i decided to pack a small bag for the car tomorrow.

as i finished packing everything i heard a knock on my door.

"come in" i said.

"hi" cameron said awkwardly as he walked inside my room.

"do you need something?" i snapped at him. i didn't mean for it to come out so sassy but i was just in such a bad mood.

"um well yea" he said as he itched the back of his neck.

"and..?"

"oh i just wanted to let you know that we are probably going to leave around eight a.m. tomorrow morning." cameron finally said.

"okay cool" i responded and he started walking back downstairs.

"wait come back" i said and he turned around with a big smile on his face.

"yes?" he asked.

"i just want to apologize for being so rude" i said in a sincere voice.

"dude i get it. don't worry about it. you're good" he laughed before going downstairs for real this time.

i started to get ready for bed since i had to wake up so early. i did my face and teeth routine then changed into comfy shorts and an over sized t-shirt.

"ky! come here" my dad called from his room.

i walked into my dads room to see him sitting on his bed crying.

"dad what's wrong?" i asked as i rushed over to him.

"you know this is always hard for me. i hate leaving you" he told me as we hugged eachother.

"are you sure you can't just stay?" i asked which made him chuckle.

"ky, you know i wish i could. but i have to go. you're going to be fine this summer. i trust cameron and it sounds like you are going to have a lot of fun." my dad reassured me.

"whatever i don't want to talk about that. but can i sleep in here tonight?" i asked but i already knew the answer.

"of course" my dad smiled and i went and curled up under the covers.

"ky, wake up," My dad said shaking me awake.

I opened my eyes to see the bright light from the windows in my face.

I got out of bed and went to my room to get dressed. then I grabbed my stuff and brought it downstairs. Cameron put it in his car.

"well i guess this is goodbye" I told my dad.

"you know this is not goodbye forever. it's just goodbye for now" he gave me a hug.

"i know. i love you." i hugged back.

"i love you too" he responded.

"don't let me down!" i joked as i got into cameron's car.

"no promises there!" my dad laughed.

i waved bye to him until i could no longer see him anymore. i grabbed my earbuds and plugged them in my phone.

"no no no no no no no, we are going to be in the car for 9 and 1/2 hours. you can't just listen to music the whole time! talk to me. tell me about yourself." he said.

"you're so lame" i made fun of him.

"i am not" cameron defended himself.

"whatever you say" i smiled.

"okay what's your favorite color?" he asked.

"purple" I answered.

"green and blue." he said.

"i didn't ask" i laughed.

"well i answered anyways. that's how the game works." cam explained.

"and what game are we playing exactly?" i asked.

"i don't know. you just ask eachother a bunch of questions and answer them. now it's your turn"

"okay well do you have any pets?"

"yes a dog named jaxx" He answered.

"I don't have any. clearly" I said.

"favorite food?" he asked.

"watermelon." I answered.

"chicken enchiladas!" he said.

"any roommates?" I asked him.

"my friend nash. but anyways how old are you?" he asked.

"you seriously don't know my age?" I laughed.

"no and i bet you don't know mine either!" he said sticking his tongue out at me.

"i bet i do." i smirked.

"okay then how old am I?" he asked.

"19?" I guessed.

"HAHA! I'm 20!! you are wrong!" he said making me laugh even more.

"okay well how old am I?" I asked him.

"15" he answered.

"wow you're actually correct" I told him.

"when is your birthday?" I asked.

"september 8" He said proudly.

"what about you?" he asked.

"July 12" I answered.

"can we stop and get food. I'm hungry." I groaned.

"sure. what do you want for breakfast?" He asked.

"I hate breakfast foods. can we go to subway and get a sandwich?" I asked.

"sure" he said as we pulled into the subway drive thru. I told him what I wanted and he ordered.

the rest of the car ride we asked each other very odd questions until we reached California.
