Keating's POV:
I'm sitting at dinner with my husband and some of our friends, but all I can think about are two things. First, my husband possibly being the person that killed the girl Lila, and two, the way Dee was able to connect with Gabriel Shaw so easily.

I couldn't tell who was leading who in the conversation. It was so smooth, calm, as if they were talking about a hobby instead of what different ways there are to murder people. I can't stop thinking about what she said; "I'd take a death sentence any day over a life sentence."

Later in bed I keep running the conversation over in my head. Trying to pick it apart, trying to understand what she wanted from him.

"Hey, everything okay?" Shawn asks as he gets in bed.

"I need you to keep an eye on Dee."

"Why? What happened?" He asks sounding concerned.

"We met with Gabriel Shaw and she said some things that concerned me." I admit.

"Like what?" He asks as he twists so he's facing me.

"Stuff like how she thinks; death is a gift and life is a sentence. Shaw said something about how she seems to have had the soul burnt out of her. I don't know, I just want to make sure she doesn't do anything to hurt herself or anyone else." I explain.

"I'll talk with her, get a read on her. How's that sound?" He offers and I nod.

"Thanks." I say and he nods and gives me a kiss on the forehead.

"But for what it's worth, she is unique. She seems to have a different view of the world than your other students." He adds.

"Yeah, you should have seen the way she talked with Shaw, it was like they were old friends catching up. As if no one else was in the room with them." I say.

"Shaw, he's the leader of the cult?"

"Yeah."

"They have a gift for making people feel special-."

"No, it wasn't like that, he might've been trying to woo her, but it also didn't seem like he was. I don't know how to explain it. It wasn't like how he was talking to Elena, he talked to her like a lover in the past. With Dee it was like-."

"They were on the same level." He finishes my sentence.

"Yeah." I agree.

"Hmm...interesting. People who lead cults often have an air of superiority with everyone else." He mutters.

The next day I see Dee in my living room with the group of students and notice how distant she is from them. She barely talks to them, she's barely looking at the papers in front of her at all. She seems to ignore Griffin, the football player, giving his account about what happened the night of Lila's murder. How he's claiming that Rebecca killed her, not him.

"Dee." I say once Griffin is done talking.

I motion for her to follow me into my office. She huffs but follows me and closes the door.
