Chapter 21

NESSIE

"Our girl got the job", April says, while walking through the door. I came at the dorm for the evening, since the girls invited me over to celebrate. I texted them earlier and after what have been five whole pages of heart emojis and congratulations, they said we should do something fun tonight. So I am back home.

April left earlier to get some Asian takeout. We usually cook, but it's a special occasion, so that calls for Asian takeout.

We cheer again and April comes join us on the floor. We are all in the living room, sitting on the ground. We would usually eat at the table, but again, special occasion.

"I knew you would get the job", Nini tells me proud from where she is lounging. She is literally lying down on her stomach, while all of us are sitting. She doesn't seem to mind though.

"You sure did", Soph teases her.

"I did", Nini replies convinced.

"You told me and I quote: Soph, better get out the bottle", the blonde adds.

"Ouch", I let out, faking being offended. Nini's cheeks turn pink and the rest of us begin to chuckle.

"To celebrate, dovey, to celebrate", she tries to explain. "Where is the bottle anyway?"

"Fridge", April answers.

"I can't drink", I remind them. Nini stands up and gives me a glare.

"As if I wouldn't have thought of that", she adds. She walks to the kitchen and opens the fridge, taking out a bottle of champagne. For children. The one that tastes like apples and grapes and has an elephant on the cover.

"You have to be kidding me", I tell her laughing.

Nini smirks. "It tastes better than it looks like. Caden, Dia, Jacob and I bought another one yesterday for a taste test."

I raise an eyebrow at the combination. I understand Caden and Jacob being there, for they live in the same room and are best friends, but why was Dia there.

"Jigsaw night", Nini says, as if that would explain anything. She even continues as she notices my raised eyebrow. "Thursday night is jigsaw night. We all come together at their dorm and make puzzles."

I get even more confused. And not about why Dia was there.

"Jacob and I are fake dating", Dia whispers as she sees I am still confused. Now my eyebrow is raised even higher. They are what?!

"What?! Why?", I ask.

"They are really cute together, that's why", Nini mumbles. I look at her understanding. She's right.

"People won't stop calling me a liar for what happened with Leo. So Jacob agreed to fake date me", Dia explains, her voice shaking.

I look surprised. But none of them give any other detail.

"So, moving on", April cuts the silence short, "are you excited for next week?"

"I am", I answer. "I can't believe I'll get to hear my baby's heartbeat."

"My niece or nephew", Nini says. She then pulls out her phone, and I notice her wallpaper changed again. It's Caden on the ice at some hockey game, Nini holding her hand like a heart around him. "I even made a Pinterest board", she begins.

"Shocker", April lets out. Nini looks at her and rolls her eyes.

"Look", the redhead says handing me her phone. I look at a board filled with different clothing pieces for the baby, ideas for a baby shower and name templates. "I'll make you a collaborator later", she adds.
