War

I'm at least ten stories up, the sky is getting darker and the rainbow sky seems to want to be in the space of the castle, but instead it forms a ring just outside the ivory gates and thickens. I have no idea how it happens, must be one of the geological mysteries of this place.

"That's amazing."

"What is?" Demi asks, taking a deep breath next to me, her left hand slightly on top of my right on the balcony.

"The clouds. They're just..stopping right at the gate." I say in astonishment.

"Well, the clouds have acid rain that burns the skin of all non humans and weakens them. The nature here has evolved, but organisms reproduce very slowly. I'm the only mortal being here, or I was, now you're here. That's why the gates are ivory."

"That made no sense to me whatsoever."

"Ivory is a shield. Give it a shape, it will make it 3D and stretch up into the stratosphere. It protects my people, my workers, and my defenses."

I nod in understanding, although I still can't make sense of it all. Demi's a lot of people's queen, but we're talking an entire kingdom of elves and Giants and all sorts of weird shit. Why? Because she's human? Probably the most flawed choice possible for a leader, animal wise.

I look over at Demi, considering to tell the gorgeous woman with the short black hair, neatly pinned and tied in a bun to perfection. Now that I can get a closer look, I see the make up she wears in detail, the winged black eyeliner, purple eyeshadow with white dots on it. She wears just enough foundation to hide the freckles I know she has and red lipstick on in a way to make her sexy and fierce, but able to control a futuristic nation. Her nails are painted an ice blue and I notice little white lightning bolts on the right side of every nail, but I don't pay much attention to it. Probably just a design.

She squints as a glimmer of the sun moves away from a cloud in the pinkish sky and into her eyes, which sparkle in return as if to say something in an unknown language. Although her calmness in the moment is what she wants me to see, I can tell by the way she bites the right side of her cheek every so often and the almost constant tapping of her fingernails, she's anxious. She's surveying the area around us as if she's looking for something, someone, to come and taking deep breathes, trying to let the fresh air clear her head as well as her lungs. I've only seen one at a time for her nervous ticks. She always taps her fingers, that's a given, but all these other additions are either visuals I can't usually see or overlooked motions.

"Why so fretful?" I ask, leaning on the banister of the balcony balustrade.

"There is a storm brewing. That's why the clouds are there, but they have never been this thick." She huff in worry.

"Who's it against?"

"Thanto and metathesio. We call the the phobias."

"Why?" I've never learned these names, not even in the ancient world or in mythology. It sounds like the brothers in Romeo and Juliet that didn't make the final cut because they weren't important enough. I almost laugh, but then I realize this is kinda serious.

"Because they're afraid." Demi says. "They're aggressive and have a power of some sorts, so when all else fails, they fight."

"Why are they so afraid, and why fight you if you've got all this?" I ask, gesturing to our surroundings.

"Well, they're probably afraid of me getting what handle they have on the spell that was cast on the three of us, the spell just happens to make us the three most powerful people in La La Land. This spell, which I'm sure you're wondering what it is, is what holds us together, but keeps us separated. It can only have one main focus and everyone else is secondary to it, this is why the phobias fight me. They're losing their hold as I gain power on the kingdom. I try to truce with them, mainly Thanto, since he has the power of the two, but he refuses to settle for anything but the number one slot."

I ponder this, trying to work up a theory that will make sense. If Demi goes, Thanto believes he will be King of the Kingdom. Only one person can truly have the spell's focus. Metathesio doesn't want anything but to be along side Thanto. This means that Demi's winning right now, but a big hit on her, the kingdom, and potentially the bond Demi has with the spell. It seems right, but there is still something missing. I rack my brain for hidden details not fully mentioned. The ivory gates are an advantage, but so is the fact that the kingdom can be surrounded..I got it!

"Whoever has the spell's biggest influence has the key to the kingdom." I say, proud of my discovery.

Demi seems to be too, because she beams, her eyes glowing. "I knew you'd be the one to figure it out, I just knew it." Next thing I know, Demi is dragging me behind her as she flys down the glass stairs. I don't see where she drags me though, because very slowly I feel my soul leave my body and I see myself run down the stairs while I float where I can hear what I just assume are gods arguing. Who knows, maybe it's over the spell.

Demi's POV

I look at Monica, confusions totally taking over my features, that is until, of course, I see who "they" are. Jenny, Katia, Aiden, and Dylan. I better prepare for battle, because by the look on Dylan and Aiden, mostly Dylan's, faces, I know.

A war is coming.
----------------------------------------------that wasn't very good, I know I know, but for anyone who likes fantasy I truly apologize because that was a catastrophic attempt. That's it though, no more dream scenes and Demi POV's.
