Back in Seattle the ambience of the hospital wasn't the same, no mice squeaking all the time or endless dates to the rooftop to go see the view of the London skyline. Meredith and Derek were only expected to cut, but they were okay with that.
Meredith's pager went off, 911 in the pit, she dropped the charts she was tirelessly filling out and immediately ran to the trauma room.
"What do we have?" She made her way through the flooded pit, wondering what could've happened to cause so much commotion.
On the gurney was a tall, red headed almost 6 month pregnant woman, she looked like a surgeon herself except unconscious and half of her dress torn off her pregnant belly. Next to her stood a masculine, grey haired man who looked like he could pick up anyone after saying a word to them.
"Dr. Grey, we paged you for a fetal, neuro, and general consult. Patient is a pregnant 38 year old female, unconscious, she and her husband were found on the side of the street after a pickup truck flipped."
"Okay, lets get an ultrasound going so we can see how baby is doing and order a CT. I will do a neuro assessment and have her hooked up to a baby monitor to-"
"She's a doctor. A surgeon, a fetal surgeon and i'm a plastic one. We were in town to actually stop by the chief's office, he called us up." The grey haired, handsome man interrupted Meredith as she continued to try and save his wife's life.
"Well I am a fetal surgeon too and a neurosurgeon, so let me do what I have to do to save your wife's life. Somebody lead him to the waiting area." Meredith was now concerned about the baby, it was in distress and there was massive internal bleeding around the uterus. She could try and keep the baby in there but the lady had to be moved into surgery quick. "Okay everyone, I have a plan, we will do a CT in the O.R. using a mobile CT machine, I am going to try and stop this bleeding before we have to take the baby out."
Everyone listened to Meredith and in a matter of minutes, she was scrubbing in.
"Don't worry honey, we are going to keep you alive." Meredith began, she sliced open the woman's abdomen making sure to not disrupt the uterus. "I need lap pads and tons of suction, c'mon Karev more suction." The baby's heart rate was increasing and showed signs of D-cells.
"Dr. Grey you have to work quick or else this baby has to come out." Karev was not suctioning for dear life.
"I'm aware Karev- I found it, its here, the iliac. Clamp." Meredith was now sweating, she was thanking whoever was up there that she was able to find this bleed and save not just the mother, but also her baby. It was rare to be able to do two of her specialities at once, but when it did happen, it reminded her why she put herself through those four grueling residencies.
"Okay Karev, you can close up, I'll go update the family." Meredith was excited, and even more excited that her intern friends were now residents, so they could be the ones to finish her work.
Meredith contently strolled to the waiting room but as she got closer she heard anger.
"What the hell are you doing here Mark?" Derek was furious that his best friend had tracked him down in Seattle, after what he did to him.
"Listen Shep, Addie and I got into a wreck. She's pregnant and she's probably dying."
Derek showed no remorse, and punched his once best friend right in the jaw.
"Shit." Meredith muttered to herself as she entered the room. She pried her boyfriend off of the rather unconventionally hot man and brought him to the other side of the room. "What were you thinking Derek, who is that guy." Meredith was now pressing Derek up against the wall with a stern look on his face.
