meredith tossed and turned in her bed all night. all of the tiredness seeped out of her body, replacing it with anger and grief. she gave up attempting to sleep and made her way over to her office, a notification popped up on to her computer screen, it was the email from her mother.

RE: INFORMATION ON WILL, PLANE TICKETS, AND INTERNSHIP PROGRAM AT SEATTLE GRACE
WILL: My lawyer, Timothy Greene will present my will to you at Luvera Law firm in Seattle. His phone number is 206-478-5503, call him to schedule an appointment when possible.
PLANE TICKETS: I have contacted the airline I have connections with to schedule our flight. Please send me a date and time ASAP.
INTERNSHIP PROGRAM: Richard has agreed to take you in although he is not aware of your current situation. He also does not know about my diagnosis, you will not let anyone know about my disease unless told to in my will. If you would like to tell him about your European medical license you can but I wouldn't until you situate something with the medical board.

she slammed her computer shut and tried to come up with some type of way where she could still practice medicine at her level. quitting surgery was her worst nightmare she couldn't imagine being an intern all over again. suddenly, a random idea popped into her brilliant mind. maybe i should just live half my life in the UK and half of it in Seattle. meredith thought this was a good compromise, she just had to somehow convince chief Burton to let her do that. she opened her computer again and started typing an email concerning her current situation and the compromise she was willing to do as long as he agreed.

RE: EMERGENT
Dear Chief Burton,
A sudden emergency concerning my mother has occurred. It will require me to move back to the states and possibly start my whole career over due to the differences between an American medical license versus a European one. This evidently concerns me greatly, the UK is my home and I cannot imagine starting my career over, especially having to regain all four of my specialties. I have thought it out and came up with a possible solution. I propose that I travel between the U.S. and London every other week, alternating between my two very different career paths. Although I do have a chance of convincing the American Board of Surgery to let me take all of the tests required to become a certified surgeon, it is not likely. Hopefully it will all work out, but until now I will need your approval to follow through with this plan.

as meredith headed back to her room, she began to think about her life in Seattle. would she keep her life in the UK a secret? how was she going to break the news to Cristina? was her mother lucid when she wrote that email or did her assistant do it for her? other questions radiated through her mind while she plopped back down on to her queen sized mattress, sleep took over her thoughts, she was out in an instant.
