They pulled up to the colonial style house decorated in red ribbon and wreaths in every window. Meredith felt so out of place, but in a few minutes, her dark and twisty self had to transform into a character right out of a Hallmark movie.
"You didn't tell me exactly how crazy your family was about Christmas." Meredith continued to stare at the house.
"Yeah my mother and sisters go feral every year. I just sit back and play with the kids, your gonna love them." Derek placed the car into park and they began walking towards the front door, also decorated with a wreath.
When the couple arrived and rang the bell, the door was answered by a young woman, who looked like the girl version of Derek.
"Derek!" The unfamiliar woman crashed into Derek's arms as Meredith politely stood behind him.
"Amy! How are you?" Derek was grinning, he hadn't seen his favorite sister in months.
"I'm great, who's this pretty lady?" Meredith was now next to Derek, firmly gripping his hand.
"Mer meet Amy, Amelia, she's one of my sisters. She's an aspiring neurosurgeon."
"Two neurosurgeons? The Shepherds have great genes. It's so nice to meet you Amelia." After her remark, Meredith was immediately pulled into Amelia's arms.
"It's so nice to meet you Meredith." Amelia muffled into Meredith's shoulder as she continued to hug her. "Let's go introduce you to the family."
Meredith never had siblings to hug, it felt nice that Derek had such a huge family. As the three walked into the kitchen, they heard laughter and conversation fill the room.
"Derek!" Carolyn was a petite woman, but Meredith was still petrified of her. She never did the whole meeting the family thing. "And you must be Meredith." She got pulled into another hug, these Shepherds and their damn hugs, she thought to herself.
"It's so nice to meet you Mrs. Shepherd, thank you for inviting me." Meredith put on her best grin.
"Sweetie, call me Carolyn, and it's a pleasure to see that Derek finally met someone."
"Okay ma, let go of Meredith before you strangle her." He giggled and smiled at her.
"Here come sit by the family, we have a lot to catch up on." Carolyn dragged the couple to the long table decorated in beautiful Christmas themed China. Sitting around the table were a lot of women.
"So Meredith, these are my sisters: Amelia who you've met, Nancy, Kathleen, and Liz." As Derek listed out the names of his sisters, they looked up and grinned at Meredith, she felt welcomed.
"Hey everyone, it is so nice to meet you." Meredith was now getting dragged to a seat at the table.
"So Meredith, we've heard a lot about you. How did you two meet?" The pregnant lady stared daggers at Meredith, Nancy was by far the scariest sister yet.
"Well, uh, it was my first night back in Seattle and the night before I had to go into my internship. I went to the bar and low and behold he was there. We didn't talk after that night, but when I went back to London, he was invited by my chief and showed up in my office to work on a consult with me." She was nervous for his sister's response, but she was technically telling the truth.
"So he picked you up at a bar? And aren't you the Chief of Fetal now, how were you an intern a year ago?" The questions were picking up, but Meredith wasn't going to let herself get destroyed by the wolf pack.
