A Saviour

Chapter Thirty Seven

Kate walked through the front door in the early evening, after many rushed phone calls with Johnny a few hours prior, she had finally finished her day. It was nearing on 8pm and already gone Belle's bedtime, she felt like a dreadful mother not being their for her child but after another client's bombshell divorce announcement she couldn't leave work on time. It made her think back to when it was just her and how on earth she managed. She heard giggles coming from the sitting room, and found the three children and Johnny all crowded on the same couch looking at a laptop. "Hey.." she said leaning against the doorframe. They all startled and Johnny quickly shut the lid of the computer. "Hey doll. How was it in the end?" "A nightmare but I can't do anymore. How are you guys?" Lily began chatting about her exam, before Jack picked up a piece of paper from the coffee table. "Look what Belle bought home from daycare!" He said proudly. "She's taking after me, she's becoming an artist." He said smiling making Kate's heart melt. "She is. She loves watching you paint Jack." "Well when my little sis grows up I'll teach her more and more." Kate practically gushed and loved how the children had accepted the news of the pending marriage and adopting of Belle. She lent down and kissed Johnny before scooping Belle up into her arms. "Isn't it past your bedtime little one?" The trio of Depp's in front of her smirked. "We couldn't help it, we have been busy." Lily said bashfully, making Kate smile. "Busy?" She questioned. "Yes extremely, but no time like the present is there munchkin?" Johnny said standing and following Kate out the room. The latter missing Johnny winking at his children.

"She loves you so much." Kate said watching Johnny in the rocking chair of the nursery as he read the child a story. "Well I love her too." "More than me?" Kate asked giggling. "Nope.. but it's a different type of love." "She didn't want me to read her a story though.. it's because I'm not around much at the moment." "Hey, you can take her now if you want? I'll sort those clothes." Johnny said and Kate shook her head. "She's happy with you... and besides I've seen how you deal with laundry. The floor is not a wardrobe." Johnny smirked and continued the story as Belle cosied into him further.

As they walked out the nursery and quietly closed the door, Johnny took Kate in his arms. "So.... I've been thinking..." "Dangerous.." Kate smirked. "I've got some business I need to get done in New York before the year is out... and I know you've always wanted to go back but have been too scared to, so would you join me now?" Kate's eyes widened. Going back to New York would be huge for her, she had never ever been back and at some point had always vowed not to, but she did love the city. "Go with you?" She said quietly. "Yes... I promise we don't need to do anything you don't want to, I just thought it would be good for you. Make some new memories. I was thinking the kids could come too, what with it being near Christmas, it would be magical?" Kate smiled at how caring the man was. "Ok... I'll need to book some time off though." "Nonsense. I bet your owed some time with all the extra hours you've been pulling." Kate shrugged "Maybe. When are you thinking of going?" "Friday." "This Friday?" Kate asked and her eyebrows raised. "Yes.. I know it's fast but it will give you less time to stress." "umm ok.. yes let's do it." "Great. I'll get the plans in place." Johnny said wandering downstairs leaving his fiancé to change out of her work attire.

"We are good to go. She's agreed. So tomorrow you'll go to your mothers and Friday morning you'll come back and we will all fly together ok?" Johnny said quietly to his children, "Great!! I can't wait! Oh Dad I'm so excited!" "Me too!!" The children responded. "Ok well keep it quiet. Surprises only work if they stay surprises." Johnny said sitting back down on the couch besides his children. "But Dad... this is gonna be epic." "Yeah.. can we go shopping?" Lily asked. "Yes yes yes. I'll make sure you have adequate shopping time in our itinerary! Don't worry!" Johnny said rolling his eyes.

Meanwhile, Kate was sat on her bed after pulling an old battered box out the back of the wardrobe. It contained mementos from her time in New York. Granted there were not many after her fleeing the city but there was some bits that she couldn't bare to have left behind. She flipped through the photos, admiring the memories. There were some of where she worked in the bar, some of when she had friends, some of the apartment she had before giving it up to move in with Ryan. She took a deep breath as memories flooded her mind, the sights, the smells, the way of New York life. Maybe she had been gone from it too long? Johnny was right, this would be a great new start, a fresh trip to make new memories and banish the old.

She eventually returned downstairs to find the three Depp's canoodling on the couch once more. "Kate, are you excited about our trip?" Jack asked. "Oh umm, yes, it will be lovely." Kate replied quietly. Johnny knew this would be a huge thing for her but vowed he would make it the best, most memorable trip yet.
