Chapter 31

Fable stands on the facing the direction of her village as she sees a green flare. She quickly joins the others as Eren was catching Armin up. She stands next to Levi.
           "Okay. Are you you to speed now?" Levi asks looking down at the boy.
           "Yeah," Armin responds, "We won, but of the scout regiment there are only ten soldiers left alive. The ten of us."
             "That's what it looks like," Jean says looking at him, "the fighting ended four hours ago. We've been searching for survivors, but no luck."
            "So, to be clear, we resealed Shiganshina's gate, securing Wall Maria. Reiner and the Beast Titan escaped, along with that quadruped. You managed to capture Bertholdt and then, with both the commander and me wounded, you had to choose which of us to give the injection to. And you did. I transformed into a Titan and killed Bertholdt. I ate him, " Armin says starting to gag then Jean headed him some water, "why though? Why'd you pick me? Now matter how you look at it, Commander Erwin's the one humanity needed the most. Captain! Why'd you give me the injection?"
                "Tch. Hey, I thought I told you to tell him everything, Jaeger," Levi says kicking the kid's back, "there was a short debate. Your friends here argued that you were the one we needed to revive. And when I disagreed they staged a little mutiny."
               "It's true. Punish us as you will," Eren says hanging his head.
               "You'll certainly be disciplined for insubordination," Hange states looking at the two of them, "but getting punished isn't the same make amends."
             "Thing is, I was the one who chose to revive you in the end," Levi says, "or no. It's more like I chose this to be the place where Erwin died."
             "Sorry. I just don't understand," Armin says, "how could letting Erwin die be the right thing to do? What are the scouts without him? If he's gone, then how will we go on?"
             "You're right, Armin," Hange says looking at him, "I believe it should've been used on Erwin, too. To be brutally honest, nevermind. It's a shame we had to choose in the first place. It's over now. Erwin told Levi to use the syringe as he thought best. And Levi chose to use it on you. What's done is done. Erwin's life and the power of a Titan both rest on your shoulders. No matter what anyone says that's the truth. It's part of who you are now. Accept it."
              "Wait so does this mean that I need to become Erwin's replacement?" Armin asks looking at the ground, "there's no way. I can't!"
             Fable sighs looking at him and starts to say, "don't misunderstand us..."
            "There's no chance in hell that could replace Erwin," Levi finishes looking at the kid, "that said your self-doubt aside, you have a strength within you that no one else can claim. Don't let any of us regret this. Not me, not either one of our mutineers here, nor anyone else. And especially don't regret it yourself. Consider thay your new mission."
              "Now that we know Armin's alright, let's check out that cellar," Hange says standing up, "Eren, Mikasa you two can come guide me and Levi. The rest of you stay. Keep an eye out for hostile from here on the wall."
              Fable looks at Levi and says, "you're not leaving me again without hug or something."
             "I'll be back Fable," he says looking at her.
             Fable just smiles at him and gives him a kiss.  He wraps an arm around her waist before pulling away. He kisses her forehead softly before leaving with Hange and the two kids. Fable sits on the wall with the kids. After a good hour or so the four of them came back. She stands up greeting Levi.
               "Did you guys find anything?" she asks looking at him.
               "Yeah," he says motioning to Eren holding a piece of paper.
                 "What is it?" she asks looking over at it.
                 "It's a photograph," he says looking at her.
Fable leans over to get a closer and says, "hey, Levi."
"Yes, darling," he says watching at her.
"I know it's out of our way back but can we stop at my village?" she asks looking at him.
Levi smiles softly and kisses her forehead saying, "I'll talk to Hange about it."
Fable smiles at him wrapping her arms around his neck mumbling, "I love you."
"I love you too," he says pulling away from her, "now let me go talk to Hange."
Levi kisses her cheek before walking over to Hange.
"Hange," he calls to them.
"Levi," Hange says in response
"Fable wants to know if stop through the her old village," he says looking at Fable.
Hange thinks for a moment and says, "I don't see why we can't. You really do care for her don't you Levi."
Levi looks over at Hange and says, "if it was her instead of Erwin, I would've used the syringe on her and not Armin."
Hange smiles looking at him and says, "I'm happy for you Levi. Not only is she beautiful, she's also insanely smart. She's the one who made the plan to take down the Armored Titan, brilliant plan."
Levi looks back at Fable watching her look at the photograph in Eren's hand.
He walks over to the kids and Fable and says, "alright it's time to get going, we're going to make a stop on our way. Eren we're going to have to ride back on your titan form since all the horses are gone."
