"Hey, Nigel?" John Dayton asked entering his office.
"Yes, John. How can I help you?"
"I'm confused, you know?" John said, sitting across from Nigel.
"Why?"
"Well, first my son tells me that he's dating your niece, and that maybe there will be a marriage. I was happy, you know, because finally Steve was settling down and because he had chosen good, right? But today I heard that yesterday, Delilah was seen strolling through the club with this mysterious member that no one knows who he is or where he came from. Steve and Delilah were on a date and this guy interrupted them and made Delilah dismiss Steve. What's up with that?"
"John, now you confuse me. Del never told me she was dating Steve. I thought she only saw him as a friend. And about this mystery man, I'm about to find out, because you're not the first one to tell me."
"Right, but about our kids. You don't think they would be good together?"
"John, we've been friends for a very long time. And in Steve, I see you. And I know that even if Steve gets married, he won't change, because marrying didn't change you. And I don't want that for Del."
"Is it true that you're saving her for someone else?"
"For someone that really deserves her. Now, I'm not throwing you out, but I have a patient waiting."
"Oh sure, we'll talk later."
"I heard you got into a fight with Steve Dayton." Julian said to Kahil.
"It wasn't a fight. He slapped Miss Thornton and I interfered."
"You can bet you don't have a friend in him."
"As if I wanted."
"Look, here comes Mister Thornton, he doesn't look happy."
"Talk to you later, Julian."
"Where's my niece?" Nigel asked Kahil as he entered the house.
"I believe she's at the pool, sir."
"Thank you, and my wife?"
"She went over to Mrs. Dayton's."
"Okay." Nigel went towards the pool and found Delilah swimming. "Del, I need to speak to you."
"Oh, yes, Papa." She said getting out of the pool and wrapping herself in a towel. Then walked towards her uncle who waited under the shade. She sat down next to him and looked into his worried face. "Is something wrong?"
"I just heard some things at work today that worry me. First, John came to tell me that you and Steve were getting married."
"What? Steve and I are getting married? Never! I don't think so."
"I'm glad to hear that. Hey, what happened to your face?" He asked, grabbing her face and examining it.
"Oh, when I came out of the tub I slipped."
"Del, you have to be careful, you can really hurt yourself in a fall like that. Anyway, I also heard that yesterday you were seen at the club with a very mysterious man, that no one knows who he is or where he came from. Would you care to tell me something about him?"
"Oh, well. I just met him yesterday. His name is Kay, he's from Italy."
"Very interesting. Well, we are clear. Go back to the pool. I'm going to rest for a while, not feeling too well."
"Do you need me to call the doctor?" She asked, alarmed.
"Don't worry, dear, it's just a headache."
"Okay, let me know if you need anything."
"Sure, I will."
"My lady, I brought you some refreshments." Kahil said to Delilah as she laid by the pool later that day.
"Oh, thanks, Kahil, you shouldn't have." She said taking the glass from him as their fingers brushed, she cleared her throat.
"I just wanted to see how you were."
"And how are you planning on doing that if you can't even look me in the eye?"
"I'm not supposed to look my superiors in the face."
"But I want to look at your face."
"Why?"
"Because I feel things for you that I shouldn't be feeling, Kahil." She said sitting up straight.
"Well, You shouldn't. You should find someone of your standard."
"What if I don't want to?"
"I heard you met someone yesterday, the same person you were with last night. I'm sure he's of your standard." He said turning around and walking away.
