"She's a beautiful girl." Delilah told Maria. "She looks just like you." She said looking at the black haired baby.
"But she has Steve's eyes." Maria said sadly.
"What do you mean? Is she Steve's?"
"We were drunk and fooled around."
"Does he know?"
"Of course he does. That's the worst part. Delilah, Steve is dangerous."
"I know, Maria. I know."
"What did you have?" Elizabeth asked entering the hospital room.
"A girl, do you want to hold her?" Maria asked.
"I'll leave you two alone." Delilah said leaving the room.
"Del!" Nigel said from the waiting area.
"Papa! What are you doing here? Are you okay?" She asked, sitting next to him.
"I came with Lisa. Was hoping I got to see you. I heard about John."
"Yes, it's sad. Never thought he would do something like that."
"You know why he did it, right?"
"No, I was going to call Steve now to see if he learned something."
"John gambled his fortune away. They are broke. Well, not anymore that he married you. Why didn't you invite me to the wedding? I'm hurt, Del. You know that was one of my wishes."
"Papa, please. I need to go home. I left Tommy alone for too long. Glad to see you." She said, kissing him on the cheek.
"Steve?" Delilah asked, knocking on his bedroom door.
"What?" He asked, annoyed, opening the door and Tina flew out covering herself.
"You are an asshole." Delilah said, turning around, but he grabbed her and pulled her into the room and closed the door.
"What do you want? What's so important that you had to interrupt my fun?" He asked.
"I just came to ask where Tommy was."
"He's in the room across the hall."
"Oh, and you have a daughter."
"That's great. We should start working on ours, don't you think?" He asked, pulling her towards the bed.
She pushed him hard. "No, I don't plan on sleeping with you."
"One day you will." He said as she left the room.
The next day, while Delilah helped Tommy get dressed, Tina entered the room with her head down. "Mrs. Dayton?" Tina called.
"Ugh, please, call me Delilah."
"Okay, Delilah. I came to say I'm sorry. I don't have any feelings for your husband."
"Tina, look at me." She said while Tina slowly lifted her face and showed a black eye. "He did this to you?"
"Yes."
"How long has he been doing this?"
"It was once in a while when he came from vacation. But now that he's back it's more than once a week. I'm terrified of him."
"You're not the only one." Delilah said, hugging her. "But you can escape from him. We are moving in a few days. Go to my uncle's house. Tell them I sent you, they'll give you a job there. Okay? You will be free of him."
"What about you, ma'am?"
"I made my choice."
"What a lame burial." Steve said, carrying a sleeping Tommy in his arms.
"God, Steve! We just buried your father." Delilah said, walking beside him.
"Steve? Steve Dayton! Wait up." Someone called from behind. When they turned, Delilah found herself staring into those blue eyes belonging to the first man to ever break her heart.
"George, my friend. How are you?" Steve said, shaking George's hand.
"I'm great. Sorry to hear about your father. But, things seem great for you though. You married the lovely as always Delilah. Hi, Del. How are you?" He said, stretching his hand.
She grabbed it and shook it fast. "I'm great, George."
"Delilah Thornton. You got the woman no man could have."
"Delilah Dayton, George. Don't forget about that." Steve corrected him. "So what are you doing in town?"
"I heard about your father and came to see how you were."
"And where are you staying?"
"At Oldman's Hotel. After my folks sold their properties, I didn't have anywhere else to stay."
"Why don't you come stay at our place? We have enough space. We can all catch up."
"I don't know, aren't you supposed to be on your honeymoon. I don't want to intrude."
"Nonsense. Look, at the apartment we have our son, this one here and Maria, my father's widow with her newborn. We have to plan our honeymoon later."
"Well, if it isn't a problem with your lovely wife." George said, looking at her.
Delilah looked at Steve nervously. "What do you say, honey?" Steve asked her.
"It would be my pleasure to have you in our home." She answered.
"Perfect, just send me the address and I'll get my things from the hotel and meet you there."
"See you there, pal." Steve said as George walked away.
"Are you sure about this, Steve?"
"Why? Is there going to be a problem having your ex as a guest in our house?"
"No."
"Good, now let's get out of here. It's depressing."
