"Maria, stop crying." Steve said entering the living room after Delilah left.
"Steve, we lost everything."
"But we are getting it all back, honey." He said pulling her up to her feet and kissing her.
"What do you mean?" She asked curiously.
"I'm marrying Delilah in two days."
"How do you do that?"
"I threatened her with killing Julie's son."
"Oh my God, that's your son. You're insane, how can you even say something like that?" She said, pushing him away.
He grabbed her arm and twisted it. She whimpered. "Are you daring me too? I can kill whoever I want."
"Steve, you're crazy!"
"You should stop saying that. Should I remind you that the kid you're carrying is mine?" He said, grabbing her by her neck.
"I'm sorry." She said as he let her go.
He kissed her forehead. "Now, that's a good girl. Think I'll keep you as my mistress." He said leaving as Maria looked frightened at him.
As soon as Delilah walked into the house, Kahil sensed there was something wrong. He grabbed her wrist as she walked past him and pulled her to the living room. "Delilah, we are going to talk now." He said, letting her go.
She looked at the floor. Couldn't bring herself to look at him fighting the tears. "Yes, talk. Kahil, I don't want you to ever touch me, kiss me or even talk to me ever again. If you can, leave. I don't ever want to see you again." She turned to leave but he stopped her.
"What's wrong with you? What did Steve say to you? Can you at least look at me?"
She slowly turned around and faced him. "Steve opened my eyes! What I felt for you was a simple whim. I wanted to see what it felt like to be with other men. But it just made me realize how much I love Steve and how much he loves me. Look, we are getting married in two days."
"You are a bitch. You should stop playing with people's feelings. Steve doesn't love you like I do. And unfortunately for me, we only love once, right? Good luck with your marriage. I know you too well, but don't know what game you're playing. I just hope you don't get hurt. Don't worry, you'll never see me again, I'll leave for Italy tonight." He said and left.
"That's odd." Nigel said, hanging up the phone and looking at his wife.
"What's odd?" Elizabeth asked.
"That was the guy that was going to marry Delilah. He called to say the arrangement is off. Apparently he has been around for a while and something happened that made him change his mind."
"Where is he from?" She asked suspiciously.
"Italy, why?"
"Papa, I need to tell you something." Delilah said entering the study. "Oh, good, Elizabeth, you're here too."
"What is it? Are you okay? You look as if you've been crying." Nigel said as Delilah took a seat in front of him.
"I just came to tell you some great news."
"And what is the news?" Elizabeth asked.
"Steve and I, we are getting married in two days. We have always loved each other and can't live another day apart from each other."
"What?" Nigel asked furiously rising from his chair. "You could've chosen anyone, and you choose Steve?"
"Ni, please, calm down. This can't be good for you. Look, it's Delilah's choice. You once said you would respect her choice. If they love each other, let them be happy. Look at it this way, you'll get to see her married."
"But Steve?" Nigel asked again. "What about Tommy? Will Steve accept Tommy? He doesn't look like a kid friendly guy."
"Papa, Steve is Tommy's father." Delilah said.
Nigel slumped in his chair defeated. "So, it's a done deal. You really are doing this?"
"Yes, we are. Just be happy for me."
"But why so soon, Del? Give me time to arrange the wedding you deserve." Nigel said.
"I don't want any of that. I want to get married fast. We are going down to the courthouse and doing it." Delilah said.
"Aren't you worried about what people might say about you two tying the knot so fast?"
"Papa, I'm tired of people talking about me. I don't care anymore. Now, please, leave me alone. I made my choice." She got up and walked out of the study.
"There's something going on. This isn't right." Nigel said to Elizabeth as she looked out the door worriedly.
"Lisa, it worked! My plan worked." Steve said to Elizabeth the next day.
"Yes, but it almost killed Nigel!" She said furiously.
"Oh, please. Since when have you been wishing for that?"
"Steve, I love Nigel. Don't confuse me with Maria."
"Right. Look, at least now I won't be broke. I'll have her parents' money plus what Nigel is leaving her. Oh, look at the time. I'm supposed to meet my future wife and go apartment hunting."
"Try to pick something simple. You don't need her suspecting that you are marrying her for her money."
"I'm not stupid, Lisa. Oh, by the way, how did Kahil take the news? Please, tell me."
"I honestly don't know. But apparently he didn't take them too well. Because I heard that last night he went back to Italy. Italy! Oh my God!"
"What is it?"
"Nothing, I just remembered something. See you later."
"This one is nice. Don't you think so?" Steve asked Delilah.
"Yes, it is nice."
"It has more than enough rooms."
"Mama!" Tommy called from the terrace. "No beach, the beach is far away."
"Don't worry, we'll go to Papa's house a lot. I promise." Delilah said, pulling him back inside the apartment.
"This room will be Tom's." Steve said about a baby blue room with a view of the ocean. They walked to the next room. "This one is perfect for guests."
"What about the one at the end?"
"That one will be Maria's."
"She's going to live with us?"
"Yes, and stop asking questions." He said under his breath. They stepped into a very large bedroom with a view of the ocean also. "Our room."
"Our room?"
"Of course, honey." He said squeezing her hand until it hurt. The real estate lady looked at them confused.
"Well, do you like it? Would you take it?" The woman asked.
"We'll take it." Steve said.
"Perfect, I need you both to sign here and here." The woman said, taking out the paperwork.
