The next morning, Nigel was waiting for Delilah in the breakfast room. It was almost ten and she still hasn't come down. When she finally came down, a big smile covered her face. "Oh, good morning, Papa. How are you feeling?" She asked, kissing his cheek.
"I'm okay. Just a mild headache. What's with the good mood?" He asked.
"Oh, I just had a very good night's sleep. Well, gotta go. Going to meet Steve at the club to play some tennis. See you later."
"Wait, Steve? What's going with you two?"
"Nothing so far, Papa. We are just friends, but who knows."
"Shouldn't you eat something before you go?"
"Oh, I thought you had breakfast sent up to my room. Maybe the staff want a raise or something. They just know I love to be pampered." She said as she left the house.
"What a spoiled brat!" Kahil exclaimed to the gardener as he watched Delilah get in her car and drive away without even a glance towards them.
"It took us time to realize that. You've only been here two days and seem to know her too well." Julian, the gardener, joked while he trimmed some bushes.
"If it wasn't for her beauty, no one would set eyes on her."
"Actually, we haven't met anybody asking for her in four years. The only guy we've known to be with her was Mister George. Remember, she's the woman no man can have."
"I still don't understand why that is. I wonder if it's her behavior that scares any man away."
"Rumor has it that her uncle is saving her for someone."
"Really? That's an interesting rumor. I wonder if she knows. I'll have to find out if it's true."
"And how are you going to do that?"
"I'll find a way. I have to go and run some errands for Mister Thornton. See you later."
"I'm so glad you came. I had such a great time, didn't you?" Steve asked after they finished the game.
"Well, I had fun beating you." Delilah said, sitting down on a bench catching her breath.
"Hey, I let you win. Didn't you notice? I was the envy of every man here today. Did you see how they looked at us?"
"Yeah, they were looking at you getting beat by a girl."
"You are funny."
"Excuse me, are you Delilah Thornton?" A very handsome man dressed in a very expensive suit stood in front of them.
"Yes, and you are?" She asked without taking her eyes off him. He grabbed her offered hand and kissed it. His touch burned, just like Kahil's.
"I'm Kay, delighted to meet you." He said with an accent she couldn't place. His hair hung up to his shoulder, olive skin.
"Just Kay?" Steve interrupted.
"For now." He said smiling at Delilah without taking his eyes off her. "Has anyone ever told you that you have the most intriguing green eyes in the world? I've traveled to so many places and never seen eyes like yours."
"Hey, buddy. I'm sorry, but we are kind in the middle of a date. So, if you could just leave the way you came." Steve said annoyedly, taking Kay's hand off Delilah's.
"Look, buddy, I think that's something our precious lady decides. Delilah, should I leave you alone with your date?" Kay asked, taking her hand again.
"Yes, Delilah, could you tell the gentleman to beat it and leave us alone?"
"Steve, don't be so rude. And we are not on a date, we are just friends." She told Kay. "I see you went through the trouble of meeting me. Steve, could you call me later? I'm going to talk to Mister Kay here for a little bit."
"Are you serious?" Steve asked, standing up. "I'm out of here!" He stormed off.
"Thank you so much for coming to my rescue." She said as Kay sat on the space Steve vacated.
"I have a sense of detecting damsels in distress."
She laughed. "I love the way you speak. Where are you from?" She asked, staring into his dark eyes.
"I'm from Italy."
"Italy, really?"
"I know, my skin color, right? It's a long story."
"Oh, okay. Hope I can hear it sometime."
"I hope so too. So, what's the problem with your friend Steve?"
"He wants something from me. He claims to be in love with me."
"And you don't believe in love?"
"If there's one thing I do believe in, it is love. And I can sense someone's true feelings when I look into their eyes. And in his, I only see lust."
"What do you see in mine?"
She stared into those dark eyes that pierced through her soul. She cleared her throat and looked away. "Um, you are hard to read. I can't really tell. First time this has happened to me."
"You really impress me. You're nothing compared to what I've heard."
"Please, do tell. What have you heard?"
"Why spoil the moment with gossip?"
"You're right. People do like to talk."
"Yes, they do. Can you feel all the eyes that are on us right this moment?"
She looked around and saw many eyes on them. "Oh my. People are going to be talking about you soon. Being that you're talking to me."
"I don't care, I truly enjoy the company." He said as he glanced at his watch. "Oh, look at the time. I have so much to do. Would you mind if I walked you to your car?"
"Oh, please." She said as she took the arm he offered her. As they walked out of the club, people stared at them and whispered. "Gossip might be good tomorrow. They might even tag us as a couple."
"Would that be so bad?" He said, looking down at her and smiling. When they got to her car, he opened her door and helped her in.
"I hope I get to see you again." She said hopelessly.
"You can be sure that this won't be the last you see of me." He said turning away. Then he turned towards her again. "Would it be okay if I asked for your number?"
"Of course." She said looking through her bag for her wallet. She took out a card and handed it to him. "This is my card. It has my cellphone and home number."
"And your address, you live in the mansion by the beach down the coast. I know that place."
"Yes, that's the place."
"Oh, I almost forgot to ask you." He said, kneeling down. "Do you believe in love at first sight?"
"I do." She whispered while he touched her cheek sending thousands of sensations through her body.
"So do I." He said with a wink and left.
