Chapter 23

"Delilah!" Kahil startled Delilah by the pool.

"Kahil! What are you doing here? How did you find us?" She asked, looking around.

"I've always known where you go. Tell me the truth, please."

"Kahil, really this isn't the time."

"Delilah, the police are looking for you. Steve accused you of killing Julie and kidnapping Tommy."

"What? I don't believe you."

"It's true, Delilah." George said, appearing with the suitcases. "I just saw it on the news, your picture and Tommy's are everywhere."

"Oh God. What am I going to do?" She asked, sinking into the chair.

"I think you should call Steve, make some type of arrangement." George said frustrated.

"This is all your fault, George! You dragged me out of the house." She said weeping.

"He was going to kill you, Del. I just wanted to help you." George said, kneeling and placing his hand on her knee. Kahil stared furiously.

"I'm sorry, George. But now I can't be seen with Tommy. They will eventually catch me. But I can't let Steve get him."

"What do you plan on doing?" George asked.

"I can take him with me." Kahil said. "He likes me. Delilah, please let me help you."

Delilah looked up at Kahil. "Delilah, make up your mind, we have to leave soon." George said.

"Please, take care of him. Tommy, come here, please. You remember Kahil, right?" The little boy nodded and smiled at Kahil. "You are going to go with him for a while, okay?"

"Okay, Mama. Where are you going?"

"I need to take care of some things, but I'll go get you as soon as I am done. Please, listen to Kahil and be good." She hugged him tight. She got up and quickly ran towards Kahil and hugged him. "Thank you."

He kissed her head and returned the hug. "I'll take good care of him, I promise."

"Delilah, we need to go." George hurried.

"I can't believe he did this." Nigel said resting in a chair.

"Ni, you're exhausted. Why don't you lay on the bed?" Elizabeth said.

"Lisa, my daughter is accused of murder and kidnapping! I can't rest just because you say so. I still haven't forgiven you for your knowledge of what Steve was doing."

"I've apologized so many times, Ni. Do you want to see her again or do you want to kill yourself before you see her?"

"Alright, Lisa. But just for a little while." He said, leaving the living room and headed for the room.

"Oh, Maria. I don't want to lose him just yet." Elizabeth said to Maria as she sat next to her.

"It's all Steve's fault."

"It's mine too. Remember, I practically pushed Delilah into Steve's claws. And that stuff about Julie, I knew it before it happened."

"What are you talking about?"

"I knew Steve was going to kill Julie."

"Elizabeth! Steve killed Julie and you knew it?"

"Shh, yes, he did it to get Delilah."

"Elizabeth, you have to tell. I know you hate Delilah, but don't you think this is enough. It's the only way to get Steve out of our backs." Maria pleaded.

"Maria, I can't! I can go to jail for covering him. I'm pregnant, I can't go to jail."

"So, you're going to let Steve get away with it?"

"Promise you won't tell."

"Elizabeth, I love you, but it's no time to be selfish. People's lives are on the line. You better say something or I will."

"I'm tired of running away and hiding." Delilah said. "I haven't seen Tommy in three months. I miss him."

"I'm sure he misses you too. But, Delilah, you have to be strong." George said.

"I can't keep running, George. Look at me! I'm six months pregnant and I haven't seen a doctor yet." She said pointing to her full belly.

"What do you suggest then?"

"I'm going to the police and tell them the truth."

"And you think they are going to believe you? Steve is very powerful. He has his connections."

"It's the only way, George."

"Who could that be?" George asked when there was a knock on the door. He slowly opened the door and Kahil walked in.

"Kahil, what's wrong? Where's Tommy? Don't tell me he got him." Delilah said scared.

He walked towards her and hugged her. "This is a hug from Tommy and me. He is safe. Steve will never find him."

"So, what are you doing here? You could've been followed." George said.

Kahil stood there looking at Delilah's belly. "I know what I am doing. Delilah, you're in no state to keep running."

"What do you suggest?" She asked.

"Give yourself in, you can tell them the truth. Maria is willing to be your witness and tell them you guys were threatened by Steve."

"I was just thinking about that."

"I don't think that's right, Delilah."

"George, I appreciate what you've done, but I have to do this. Okay, Kahil. Let's do this."
