"I can't be in love with a servant, Julie." Delilah said to her maid.
"Del, you are in love with him. Look, I've been your maid since, what?"
"More than ten years."
"We grew up together. You even consider me a friend."
"Julie, you are my only friend."
"And because of that I know you too well. You had never fallen in love, until now." Julie said as she looked as five year old Tommy played next to them.
"But he's a servant, and don't forget he lied to me."
"Because he loves you too, Del!"
"Well, love sucks!" Delilah said looking out the window. "I always imagined falling in love with a prince from a far away place."
"That's a fantasy, Del. Love and money don't go together."
"Why couldn't I fall in love with Steve?" She said, kissing little Tommy's head.
"Steve? Are you crazy, Del? What could Steve give you other than heartaches? Steve doesn't love you. He wants to be with you because you're beautiful and every other man wants you and so far you have resisted him."
"Julie, I have to get married! Papa is dying. At least Elizabeth is giving him a kid."
"Del, maybe you should talk to him."
"Elizabeth made me swear not to tell him."
"Please, don't go to Steve. Look what he did to your face, and don't forget what he did to me." She said pointing at Tommy. "Give Kahil a chance, you'll never know."
"I want so badly, you have no idea. But, we come from different worlds."
"Love can conquer anything."
"Lisa, you've made me the happiest man alive." Nigel said, rubbing Elizabeth's stomach as they laid on the bed. "But, will I get to see this kid?"
"Please, be positive." She said, grabbing his hand.
"Lisa, I don't have a lifetime ahead like you do. I don't even know how long I have." He said and Elizabeth's eyes filled with tears.
"Ni, please stop saying that. You won't die before seeing and holding our baby." She said, kissing him.
"Oh, Lisa, I love you so much."
"Ni, I think you should talk to Delilah."
"About what?"
"About you being sick." She said sitting up. "It would be less of a shock if she knows."
"I don't know, Lisa. I don't know how she will take it."
"Ni, one thing I know for sure is that she loves you very much. I'm sure she would like to know what's going on with you."
"I should tell her about the arranged marriage too."
"No, she will never forgive you for that. I will talk to her about that, okay? Soften the blow."
"He called me, he will be here soon to meet her."
"Good morning, my lady." Kahil said, opening the door for Delilah, looking her straight in the eye.
"Good morning, Kahil." She said stopping before him. "Would you, um, like to get a grab to bite with me?"
"Now?" He asked, looking around.
"Yes, now."
"Okay, where do you want to meet?"
"You can come with me if you want."
"I don't think that would be wise?"
"Why?"
"You wouldn't want to be seen with a servant riding in your car."
"Fine, meet me in half an hour at the cafe by the boardwalk."
"Okay, my lady. I will be there." He said, closing the door behind her.
Half an hour later she saw a very expensive car parking next to hers. It caught her attention while a very nice suited man got out. When he turned towards her, she found herself without words. "You... you?"
"Yes, my lady, me. What's wrong? Didn't you ask me to come?"
"Yes, but you, like that?"
"Like what? You are confusing me." Kahil asked, sitting down next to her. Everyone at the cafe stared at them.
"Dressed like that, so elegant and driving a car we couldn't even afford."
"I have a friend that owns a luxury car dealership and he lent me the car while I am here, and about the clothes, well, my past job paid me enough to buy lots of clothes."
"Where did you work?"
"With a very important family in Italy, the Kirtpatricks."
"I've heard of them, my uncle knows them."
"That's how I got the job."
"Why did you leave your past job? Why come here?"
"I wanted to see the famous America."
"Well, now you know what it is."
"Yes, deceit, shallowness and it's very beautiful on the outside, but inside it's horrible."
"Excuse me?"
"I'm talking about you."
"You're insulting me." She whispered looking around.
"No, I'm telling you the truth. You are the most beautiful woman I've ever met, but your heart is stone." He took her hand in his. "Just because I'm a servant it doesn't mean I can't give you the life you dreamed. I have enough money for both of us."
"Kahil, we are from different backgrounds. If it was just for love I would be with you."
"I can't believe you. You will never stop being shallow. What are you worried about? What would people say about you?" He asked as she looked around the cafe. "Tell me, what is the only thing you wish for in life?"
"To love and be loved."
"Is that all you wish for?"
"Yes, Kahil."
"Then that's what I'm offering you, Delilah. The food is on me." He said throwing a hundred dollar bill on the table and leaving.
