Sav's povUnsurprisingly, Lando chose a stupidly expressive restaurant. One of the ones with dramatically low lighting.
Knowing he would be paying, I tried to find the least expensive item. He had caught onto my tactics quickly, and went on an entire rant about getting what I want because it's my birthday. I just shake my head and comply, not wanting to start an argument and ruin anything.
As with any fancy restaurant, the portions were unreasonably small. The dinner had barely even filled me. I'll definitely be asking Lando to stop at a drive through on our way home.
A waiter approaches our table holding a large plate with what I think is a cupcake on it. I think for a moment it's for another table, but Lando's knowing smile tells me otherwise.
My suspicions of a cupcake were correct, a lot candle stuck in the middle of it. What I didn't expect though, was the light blue color of a Tiffany and co box beside the cupcake. I freeze at the sight, hoping something else was in the box because otherwise he had just dropped a decent amount of money on a piece of jewelry.
"Well don't just stare at it." He laughs, pulling me out of my thoughts. I look at him, still unbelieving. "Make a wish." He jokes, motioning toward the still lit candle in the middle of the cupcake.
I close my eyes, blowing the candle out like a child. I don't even remember what I wished for, my mind to preoccupied thinking of the light blue box next to the dessert.
When I open my eyes again, Lando's motioning for me to open the box. A giant stupid smile on his face, undoubtedly excited to see my reaction to his gift.
I take the lid off slowly, as if it will jump out and bite me if I remove it too quickly. The expensive necklace reveals itself once the lid is fully off. The Tiffany Victoria necklace I had been eyeing for awhile facing back up at me.
The piece of jewelry around five thousand dollars, probably nothing to him but it doesn't stop me from feeling bad about someone spending such a bill on me.
I look to the ceiling, a hand coming up over my mouth. The action is silly, as if looking up to the ceiling will make the gift less real, which is proved to be false when I look back down to see it's still there.
Behind Lando's smile, he now looks slightly worried. "Lando I can't take this, it's way too expensive. I was going to get it for myself eventually." I shake my head, placing the lid back over the box and sliding it toward him.
He shakes his head his worry increasing, a nervous laugh following. "You're really not going to like this then." He says, pulling out another Tiffany box from the pocket of his pants. This one smaller. He slides both boxes back over toward me.
I sigh quietly, opening the smaller box almost as slowly as the one previous. The matching earrings staring a hole into me. These being another almost nine thousand dollars on top of the necklace.
I shake my head, turning back to Lando who now looks even more worried as he plays with one of his rings, his hands intertwined in front of him. I feel sorry for him, spending so much money on me unnecessarily, then in return I give him piles of anxiety and worry.
"Do you not like them?" His smile falls, worry now consuming him entirely. I just want to hold him. I shake my head frantically. "No don't get me wrong, they're amazing I love them." I reply, his worried look becoming slightly confused now.
"But this is almost fourteen thousand dollars right here." I continue, sliding the boxes back toward him once again. "Yeah, I know." He chuckles, sliding them back in my direction. "I think you deserve something special like this." His worry is fully gone now, replaced with that hypnotized look from earlier.
