Oscar's povLogan's phone rings, Savannah's name popping up on the top of the screen. Odd. Sav usually FaceTimes, this is just a regular call. Logan puts his controller down, abandoning the game to answer her call.
The volume on Logan's phone is just loud enough that I can hear her on the other end. Logan doesn't even get to greet her, she starts talking right away, and it might be that the phone's speakers, but it sounds like she's crying.
"Yeah, are you-" Logan tries to talk, but he's cut off and the line goes dead soon after. "That was that about?" I ask him curiously, a part of me hoping I was wrong in thinking she was crying.
Logan shrugs. "I don't know, I didn't get the chance to ask. I think something happened between her and Lando, though. She sounded upset and asked me if she could stay the night." He explains, an indication that she had been crying, confirming my theory.
Last time I was with Logan, Savannah also called crying. I sent her room service, hoping it would cheer her up some. It was one of her favorites, chicken tenders and a chocolate milkshake.
"That's like a two hour drive from there to here, is she gonna be alright?" Concern. It's evident in my voice and I know it is. And I also know why it is.
I still had feelings for her. I don't think I ever stopped having feelings for her.
Sometimes, I caught myself searching for her in a room full of people. I always said it was to avoid an awkward interaction, but now I think it was to have some sort of interaction.
I didn't tell her, obviously. Partly because she was in a relationship with Lando, and I'm not an asshole who's trying to breakup anyone. And partly because the possibility of her giving me another chance is slim, if anything at all.
My thoughts are cut off by Logan answering my question. "I'm sure she'll be okay, she's a careful driver."

Looking at the time, it's nearly been two hours already. Savannah's guaranteed to show up at any time. "I should get going, I think it'll be a little awkward if I'm here when she shows up." Just as I finish talking, a loud knock sounds from the door.
The both of us stare at the other, neither of us moving to answer the door. That was, until another knock echoes around the apartment. "I'll get it just- stay out of view?" He says, more of a question than a suggestion. As if asking me if that's what I want to do. Either way, I nod along.
Though, it proves that staying out of sight was useless, because as soon as the door is open, she's crying into his shirt. An almost indistinguishable sentence comes from her. "I broke up with him."
I watch with sympathy as he tries to calm her down, moving the both of them over to the couch. It clears up my exit, and I take it, closing the door as quietly as I can.
Instead of going home, I drive off to the nearest store. A mental grocery list forming.
The sound of the car below me acts as white noise. I'd forgotten to connect my phone, so I'm left to think in silence.
Maybe, someone else would be stoked to hear the girl they want is single for the first time in over a year. But all I can think about is if this was her same reaction after I broke up with her. And I'd hoped it wasn't, because maybe knowing she didn't care is better than knowing I hurt her like that.
But I know better than that. I'd heard her last album, most the songs were clearly about me, and none of them were remotely happy. All because I let my media team get in my head.
My shopping trip took longer than expected. I rounded the store three times making sure I didn't miss anything. When I was done, my arms were of full of three bags of her favorite candies, a pint of her favorite kind of ice cream, a half gallon of chocolate milk, and an iced coffee from the place next door.
On my way back to Logan's, I remembered to connect my phone this time, so I'm not left in silence again.
Up to the front door, I hesitated. Wondering if it was creepy to gift her a bag of her favorite things, when she didn't even know I saw her upset in the first place. I wasn't really thinking of that when the idea first came to me.
I knock anyway, hoping Logan answers the door and can wave me off as an Uber eats delivery driver.
Thankfully, it is Logan who's on the other side when the door opens. "Dude, she's still here." His voice is a whisper and he looks at me like I'm insane.
"Yeah, I know." I say in a whisper of equal volume to his. "Logan, who's at the door?" Savannah calls from somewhere behind him, her voice cracking and raw sounding.
Logan looks like he short circuits trying to come up with an excuse. "Uber eats." I whisper shout at him, and he echoes it back to Sav.
I hand him the bag of food, and the iced coffee. "Here." He looks at the items, confused. "What is this for?" He asks genuinely, looking in to the bag, and still not figuring it out.
This guy. "Just- give it to her, and I'll text you later." I shake my head at him and he nods, closing the door.
I set off down the hallway, a door opening from behind me. "Oscar, wait." Savannah calls from down the hall, and her arms are clinging around my neck before I can process it. My arms go around her middle to stabilize her on her tip toes.
She sniffles, a remnant of the tears that have dried in lines down her cheeks. "Thank you." A whisper into my ear. I don't take this as anything significant. Only as a showcase of her need for comfort right now.
"Uh- yeah. No problem." I stupidly stutter, and I can feel my face heating up, a deep red color definitely sprouting along with the feeling.
She lets go, quickly turning back around and walking back into the apartment.
You are such a snitch.
I text Logan quickly. He texts back almost as fast.
Hey I didn't tell her she just has super sonic hearing
But that's not important right now
YOU STILL LIKE HERI panic, and play dumb. I'd surely never hear the end of this if I don't convince him otherwise.
What?
No that's in the past.
We've both moved on.Yeah, that'll convince him.
NUH UH YOU STILL LIKE HER
I contemplate not answering at all, but that would only look more suspicious.
No I don't. I was just trying to be nice it doesn't mean anything.
Whatever helps you sleep at night.
