sav's povI roll over on to my right side, my arm stretching out to wrap around Lando. Except I'm not met with the warmth of his skin, but rather the coldness of empty sheets.
I blink my eyes open, confirming that the sheets are actually bare. I sit up slowly, noticing that a couple of his things are misplaced. His suitcase is thrown open and a pile of unfolded clothes make a mountain overtop the rim of it.
The sound of something falling comes from the bathroom, followed by a whispered curse. "Lan?" I call out, and he appears almost instantly from around the corner.
He's completely dressed, team gear on, hair done. The only thing missing is his shoes, absent from his sock-covered feet. "Hi baby. I'm sorry for not waking you, you just looked too peaceful." He says, making his way next to me.
He pushes the hair back from my forehead and places a short kiss right in the center. "I'm running late though. I'll see you at the track. I love you." Next thing I know, he's rushing out
the door of the hotel room. I barely have enough time to return his "I love you" before he's left me alone. That was the first real interaction we have had in over a month. I'd just flown in last night, and he was asleep when I got here. I told him not to wait up for me, saying his sleep was more important.
I thought I might go insane by how much I had missed him. Sure we FaceTimed and texted every day, but it doesn't compare to any real interaction. I was scrolling through old messages and pictures nearly every day, hoping it would make me feel less alone. It barely worked, it only succeeded in a joke from Lila about me being a stalker.
But now I could actually see him, and he's left without a second thought.
Despite the hoodie and sweatpants I have on, the room feels ice cold. It's been washed in a pale grey light that's flooded in from the open window. The neutral color scheme chosen by the hotel doesn't help with the gloomy feeling that the light has created.
Realistically, I can't get mad at him for not waking me up. After all, I didn't wake him up last night either. I guess it's only fair. Maybe he thought he was returning the favor.
Either way, I let myself fall back into the sheets. I try to get comfortable, try to get warm but it just doesn't work. I don't know why. I am usually able to fall asleep easily, at any time. I give up with a loud huff and stand abruptly. Too fast. I sit back down on the edge of the bed.
My phone buzzes on the bedside table. The screen lights up, displaying the candid picture of Lando and I. I smile at the memory of the moment, before my eyes drift down to the notification at the bottom.
