Sav's pov

He didn't show up. He promised he'd be there, and he didn't show up.

"Can I go celebrate and I'll catch the second half of your show?" He'd asked after the race, and I agreed, thinking it was well deserved.

Earlier

He jumps right out of the car and runs into my arms. "You won, and at your home race too! I'm so, so proud of you!" I yell over the cheering voices around us, tears welling in my eyes from his success. "So, so proud." I repeat again when he pulls away.

Tears have collected in his own eyes, a noticeable puddle sitting on his waterline. He laughs, a little boyish giggle bubbling over and pooling out. "All because of you, baby." He smiles wide, and hops over to the team to celebrate with them, practically jumping over the barrier to receive the number of back pats.

Before he runs off to the cooldown room, he comes back to me again, surprising me with a short kiss filled with his happiness. "All because of you." He repeats again, holding my face in his hands.

But I don't think it was just me, I think it was largely the crowd's love for him.

Present

Now I'm sitting alone in our hotel room after my show, still in the short, sparkly dress. He promised this morning he would make it. But this wasn't the first time he's missed something of ours due to his own planning problems.

I hear the door unlock and I know it's him, but I don't look up. Instead, I pick at my nail polish, which had already started chipping a few days ago.

I hear him rush to my side, and feel as the the bed dips beside me. "I'm sorry, I lost track of time. I would've never missed your show otherwise." He tries to give me a side hug, but I don't reciprocate it.

"You at least could've set an alarm." I say under my breath, thoughts racing around my head, and I'm not sure which one I should follow through with. "That's not fair, Vannah." He says, his own voice dropping to just above a whisper. What's not fair about the truth?

I laugh, and it prompts tears to sprout to my eyes. I stand from my spot on the bed, turning to face him. "You know what isn't fair? You constantly planning over me. I get that it's your job and whatever, but it's nearly every weekend now. I'm getting tired of it." I feel the warmth of a single tear fall halfway down my cheek, and I wipe it away quickly.

"We've had this conversation already." Lando says, a bit of exhaustion wrapped up in his words.

"And yet you're still pulling the same shit!" My volume increases.

"Savannah, I love you. But I've worked so hard to get here. My job always comes first." His volume remains low, calm and collected like he was the last time we argued.

I blink a few more tears out of my eyes and wipe them away as soon as they fall. "You won't have to worry about it anymore." I shake my head, and my voice breaks three different times while I talk, caused by the effort used to hold back the rest of my tears.

He takes a sharp, deep breath in. "Don't say that." He shakes his head, blinking multiple times to get rid of the gloss that's covered his eyes.

"Lando, it's exhausting for me to always have to do everything on your time, to constantly have to change around my plans so I can make it to our calls." I don't have the energy to yell anymore, so my voice breaks quietly. "I can't do it any longer." I turn my eyes to the floor, letting the water droplets fall from my eyes and land right on to the floor.

The bed shifts in front of me, and Lando takes both of my hands in his. "I promise I'll be better. I swear to you." I look up, his eyes are begging and as much as I want to give in to his promises, I can't. Not again.

"You said that last time." I say quietly.

"Savannah, please. I love you." I can't, I can't, I can't. Is all I'm repeating in my head. I've given him another chance to be better, I can't give him another one. Not now at least.

I shake my head slowly, an action I've done numerous times tonight, and squeeze my eyes shut. "Maybe once you finally get used to Red Bull, we can try again."

It takes him a minute, but he nods, eyes directed down to the floor and I watch as a single tear falls from his eye.

He takes me by surprise when he wraps his arms around my neck, resting his head against mine. "I'm sorry." He whispers, followed by a sniffle and its so hard to hold myself together.

I knew it was the right decision for me, and I think it's what he needed, too.

After a couple minutes, I pull away. I think we would've stood here all night if I didn't. I gather my things, feeling his gaze following my while I do. "Bye, Lando." All he does is nod.

"I really am sorry." A possible last effort to get me to stay. It's my turn to nod now. "Good luck on the rest of your season." He nods, and it's the last thing I see from him before I leave the room.

I manage to hold it together all the way to my car, where I let everything go. I can't even see, my vision blurred from the waterfall coming from my eyes.

I'm curled up in the drivers seat, my knees drawn up to my chest and my head resting on my knees, large puddles formed on them.

Just like last time, I call Logan. When he picks up, I don't give him the chance to ask questions. "Can I stay with you?" I ask instantly, choking on my own words. "Yeah, are you-" I don't let him get another word in. "Thanks." And I hang up.

I manage to calm myself down enough to clear my vision. Can't drive blind, can you?
