Sav's pov
He's right. I need to move on, and I've known that for some time now.
This entire week, I've stopped myself from thinking about him. Shutting down every single thought he's related to. Pushing him from my mind completely.
I wave to him and Elaine in the paddock, giving the both of them a genuine smile as I do. She waves back enthusiastically as he pretends not to see me.
His arm was draped over her shoulders, but I didn't care, I didn't even think twice about it. I kept walking towards the McLaren hospitality.
Lando asked me if I would join him on his track walk. It's Thursday which is always uneventful, so I agree.
"You clearly have no fear." He laughs as he gestures to my dark blue shirt, worn in support of Williams. It's a dramatic contrast to the papaya orange shirts surrounding us in the hospitality.
I pull on the thin cotton of the shirt. "Well I don't have anything McLaren, and I didn't plan on leaving Williams this weekend so I didn't pack any orange." I make it sound like it's his fault, which in a way it is. He was the one who asked me if I could meet him at the McLaren hospitality.
He takes his hat off his head, and places it on mine. "Now you have something McLaren." He doesn't try to hide his smirk.
It sinks down to my eyebrows due to the size difference in our heads and I have to reach behind to adjust the back. It's a bit of a struggle to fix it. Lando stands there and watches trying not to laugh as I struggle.
Once I finally manage to get it correctly adjusted, I let my hands fall back down to my sides with a huff. "Can we go on that walk now?" Lando nods, and hums out a confirmation while the laugh he's been trying to hold back finally escapes.
I take the hat off and throw it at him before walking away, into the paddock and on route to the track. The scene was very dramatic, as I had intended.
The sound of his quick footsteps can be heard from behind me, and soon his hat has found it's way back upon my head. He laughs and I do, too.
We make small talk as we walk, sharing stories from our past and talking about our own niche interests while the other person listens along. He points out parts of the track that are different than they were last year, things I wouldn't have even noticed if he didn't point them out.
"Have you written anything recently?" He asks about halfway through our walk. I shrug while shaking my head. "I mean, yeah but they're all kind of... they're kind of pathetic." It's stupid to think about how I'm still writing songs about someone who acts like I no longer exist.
He turns to me with raised brows. "How so?" His eyes are focused on the track but his interest is clear in his voice.
I'm silent for a minute, thinking about how I could answer this so it doesn't seem as bad. "They're all about someone who's obviously moved on from me." I kick a stray pebble and watch as it skips it's way back into the gravel trap.
He nods, also kicking a pebble back to its home. "How long were you two together?" A long breath draws from my chest. "Two years." His gaze quickly changes from the track to me.
"Two years? That's not going to just go away Sav, give it time." He tries to console, but I quickly shut it down. "We broke up almost 10 months ago." Saying that out loud didn't feel real. It hadn't felt like that long but undoubtedly, it was.
Out of all the reactions Lando could have, he chooses to laugh. "You could have a child in that time." I look to him, my mouth slightly agape, totally dumbfounded.
