I exited the car, preparing myself to see my family again after one week of running away, as I entered the main door, I saw all my brothers in another gathering in the living room, staring at me as I walked inside but Elias immediately clapped at me the first he saw me.
"Welcome back my dearest sister! Not very happy to see you here, we all thought that you are not going back anymore but do you know? The days that you're not here is the most peaceful days we ever had?" Elias smiled very sarcastically at me but I stared daggers at him.
"The feelings is mutual my dear brother, one week of having not all of you around was the most peaceful days of my life too, I just wonder maybe if I wouldn't go back in here will be the happiest days of my life?" I asked.
"Not a good thing na bumalik ka pa Zoe, we all thought that you already understood that you are not needed here at all." Sambit ni Liam habang nagbabasa ng magazine.
"Well I guess it's not a good thing nga na bumalik pa ko dito Liam? Seeing all of your faces was the most disgusting of all, especially you." I said.
The sarcasm continued to flow like a river, with no sign of letting up.
Elias leaned back, a smirk on his face. "Zoe, I must say, your return has been the highlight of my year. I couldn't have asked for a more entertaining week." I rolled my eyes, playing along. "Well, Elias, I'm here to make all your dreams come true. You're welcome."
Liam chimed in, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "Oh, Zoe, you're too kind. We should really start a fan club in your honor."
David, always quick with a witty retort, added, "Yes, the 'Zoe Appreciation Club' – where we celebrate chaos and drama." David said but Henry just laughed at me.
Jacob, trying to keep the peace as usual, sighed dramatically. "Can we please just have a normal conversation for once?"
But Elias couldn't resist one final jab. "Normal? Jacob, that ship sailed the day Zoe was born."
I shot back with a grin, "Well, someone has to keep things interesting around here."
The room erupted in laughter again, the tension of my return gradually fading into the background. Sarcasm was our shared language, and we spoke it fluently, even if it occasionally pushed the boundaries of politeness.
The sarcastic exchange between us continued to escalate, each comment more biting than the last. It was as if we were engaged in a verbal battle, trying to one-up each other with our cutting remarks.
Elias leaned in, a wicked glint in his eye. "You know, Zoe, it's almost impressive how quickly you can ruin a perfectly good day." Liam chimed in with a sly grin. "Yeah, Zoe, you have a special talent for turning joy into chaos."
Henry joined the fray, his tone dripping with venom. "And here I was, hoping for a quiet evening."
Jacob, always the voice of reason, attempted to mediate. "Come on, guys, can't we just get along for once of our life time? And it's good to see you here again Zoe, where have you been? I've been looking for you."
But his plea fell on deaf ears as Elias shot back, "Oh, Jacob, don't be such a buzzkill. We're just having a little family reunion, in Zoe-style."
I couldn't help but fire back, determined not to let them have the last word. "Well, you know what they say, boys, you can't choose your family, but you can definitely choose to torment them." The room erupted in laughter, a strange mixture of rivalry and affection.
It was clear that sarcasm was our way of bonding, our unique language that only the six of us could truly understand. I walked out of the room to see my dear parents, I know they are just somewhere in this house because I know this kind of day are their day off to work, kumpleto nga yung lima dyan sa baba eh.
