I just took a short break from my work, kumain ako sa nearest paresan dito and guess what hindi ko nanaman kasama si Yael dahil busy sya sa collaboration nila ni Sam, ito na ang araw ng presentation ng lahat kaya kumain ako dahil matatagalan ito, as I walk inside the lobby, I saw Naomi, nagulat ako dahil kasama nya si Sabrina at Serena Chengco na dati kong tinerminate na ngayon ay bumalik na sa company, so ibig sabihin totoo ngang kinukuha na ng finance ang mga dating empleyadong tinerminate ko na! Bwisit na yan!
Hindi ko nalang iyon pinansin kaya't nag hintay nalang ako sa elevator, wala masyadong tao dito kaya ako lang ang mag isang naghihintay, it was the typicall afternoon in the company, the symphony of the employees creating of a hurried footsteps and hushed conversations, I wore a navy blazer, a white blouse and pencil skirt, my styles have changed ever since I worked in this company, I used to be very girly and almost all of my clothes are very revealing.
As I made my way to the elevator, the morning sun cast long, dramatic shadows across the marble floor adding a sense of gravity to the impending confrontation, the elevator doors closed as the logo of Global Vista Enterprises slid close with a soft chime.
I didn't notice at first that Donna is also inside the elevator, the formidable finance manager and perennial rival, the fact that just the two of us inside this elevator kills me with the awkwardness of our rivalry, I tried to not show my face because I don't want the awkwardness between us strike.
She stood there waiting, she was a vision of power in her impeccably tailored power suit, exuding a confidence that bordered on arrogance, her piercing black eyes, looked onto mine all the way as I stepped into this elevator.
"Good morning Zoe," Donna greeted, her voice dripping with sarcasm as she leaned against the mirrored walls.
I gave her a tight-lipped smile, determined not to let her provocations get the best of me. "Donna, you're looking as charming as ever."
Our verbal exchanges had become a routine like this, an expected part of our daily interactions in the office, but today was different, today, I held a secret that could shift the balance of power in our unending battle.
Both of us remained silent for a moment, enclosing us in the mirrored chamber. The air inside was cool, and the soft hum of the elevator's ascent added an eerie undertone to our impending clash.
Donna leaned forward, her eyes still locked onto mine. "What brings you to my humble abode, Zoe? Looking for financial advice, perhaps? I heard your department's been improving lately, better than before, and I'm surprised to hear about that."
Suppressing my irritation, I retorted, "Oh, Donna, you always have such keen insights. Maybe I'm here to offer you some tips on how to make allies instead of enemies." I smiled, sarcastically.
"Just remember, Donna," I said, my voice low and deliberate, "some secrets are best left undisturbed. Wouldn't you agree?"
For a moment, the facade of confidence on Donna's face faltered, replaced by a flicker of uncertainty. It was a risky move, but it was my only card to play. Donna remained oblivious to the video she held, a recording of a rooftop altercation that could shatter my reputation and destabilize the very foundation of Global Vista Enterprises, I forgot to tell you that I saw her recording a video of me and Yael having an argument in the rooftop that day.
As the elevator continued its ascent, Donna's voice turned sharper, her eyes narrowing. "You think you can intimidate me with your vague threats, Zoe? You underestimate my resilience."
I raised an eyebrow, meeting her challenge head-on. "Resilience, Donna? Or is it arrogance that blinds you to the truth? You're not invincible, and you know it."
