Penda POV
Pure warmth.
Opening my eyes, I stare at the white canopy that moves lightly with the wind. Sitting up slowly, I stretch my limbs, feeling at ease as the fresh scent of flowers fills the air. Slipping out of bed, my silk nightgown graces the cool floors.
Quietly, I open my balcony doors letting the sun shine down on me. Smiling, I can hear the birds chirping, their wings black leaving a light trail of feathers that fade as they fall from the sky. I can see the bustling city not too far away as my citizens live in harmony and peace.
Today is the day.
The day I leave my home behind, to grow my powers.
As I lean against the railing, I hear a knock on the door before I can say anything, Chiku steps into the room. My closest friend and maid who has been taking care of me since I was little.
First, she was an apprentice now she's the Head Maid of the palace.
She rushes to my side, "I'm glad you're up and early, we have much to do! We have to get ready! It's a big day!"
I give her a kind smile, "I know, I know."
Swirling my fingers, my suitcase floats, sitting on my desk carefully. This allows Chiku to go crazy as she perfectly folds and tosses my clothes in the silver and white bag.
Untying my scarf, I slip it into my bag, allowing my long locs to drop to my knees. Staring at my reflection in the mirror, I feel at ease.
I speak softly, "My Father, and Sefu?"
I feel her steps come to a halt, as the air thickens a bit.
"Prince Sefu is training the new guards and the King is in a meeting with the nobles."
I feel a sense of sadness at the news, but she continues, "He told me to send his regards, he's assigned the best dorm in Alfea for you."
I say nothing as she walks behind me. Placing her hands on my shoulders, our eyes meet through the mirror.
"Cheer up Penda. This is a new step in your life, The Queen attended Alfea and grew to protect her kingdom. And one day, you will too."
I look at her and smile, the mention of my Mother brings me joy. I've heard many stories of her, and seen her portraits around the castle.
To look at her is to look in a mirror.
When I was little Sefu used to tell me, that she poured every ounce of love into me when I was in her belly.
And used every last bit of it, to give birth to me.
In her dying arms, there I lay calm.
A moment I will never remember but a story I'll never forget.
Getting dressed, I hug Chiku one last time before I open a portal. Slipping through I wave goodbye as I step into the world of Magix. With my suitcase in hand, I look at the school. Stepping through the barrier and gate, I see the many girls here for the same reason.
A brown-haired woman with a scowl and freshly ironed clothes, Griselda is her name.
She speaks firmly, "Name."
"Penda."
Looking through her list she nods, "Ah yes, Princess Penda of Upendo. You may go with the others."
Folding in with the rest of the girls, I wait patiently for her to step forward.
She speaks sternly, "This school will be your home for the next 4 years, but this home can cease to be yours at any moment. The rules of this institution are based on discipline. Disregard these rules and I'll personally escort you to the front gate. This is not a magician school, you're not here to learn hocus. Consequently, don't use your powers in the hallways or other common areas. You may display your powers in the classroom or with a teacher's supervision."
