"Ey, congrats! You have...two friends!" Kade said sarcastically.

"Hey, I have more than you do!" I fired back.

"THAT'S ONLY BECAUSE I CAN'T BE MORE THAN 10 FEET AWAY FROM YOU!!"

I chuckled and Kade grumbled.

"Oh come on, I'm not that bad."

Kade looked me up and down.

"You really wanna say that?"

I laughed.

Sometimes I enjoyed it when me and Kade teased each other, but other times, I'm in such a bad mood that if he makes fun of me, I'll start to cry.

Right now, me and Kade were messing around outside, trying to forget about the pile of homework I have which was mostly just about researching powers and figuring out how people with my power made it stronger.

"So how do you think people strengthened the power to talk to gnomes?" I asked, watching as Kade messed around with an ant.

Kade hummed and then shrugged.

"Don't know."

"Really?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Well...I might know a way."

"And how's that?"

"You gotta learn how to teleport."

"What?! I can't do that!"

"It's not that hard. I mean, even I know how to teleport." Kade turned their attention from the ant to a nearby stick and picked it up to start poking at the ant.

"Yeah, but you're magical."

"You are too! You have superpowers!"

"Not really." I muttered.

"Yeah, you do! You can talk to me!"

"But that's not really a superpower. I mean like, flying or maybe turning invisible or something."

Kade shrugged, picking up the ant, "I think you have a superpower."

I smiled softly and gently patted Kade's head.

"Thanks." I said.

Kade smiled at me.

"But seriously, you do have a superpower. It may not be as advanced or whatever as the others, but it's still something."

"I guess you're right."

"And as time goes on, you'll find out more of your powers, but for now, shouldn't you be researching other powers and how people used the power to talk to gnomes to their advantage?"

I sighed, "Yeah, I probably should get on that."

"Then do that!!"

I chuckled.

"You know, that actually reminds me of some questions I had for you."

"What's that?" Kade asked, turning to me.

"Where do you gnomes come from?"

Kade smirked, "Maybe someone talks about it in your textbooks."

I rolled my eyes.

"Alright, alright, fine. I'll get on my work."

I stood up and put my hand down so Kade could jump on it.

Kade jumped on my hand and grabbed the ant.

"No, leave the ant down there." I said.

"Why? What if he wants to come with?"

"Let him be."

Kade grumbled and they let go of the ant before crawling up my arm and onto my shoulder.

They smiled at me, and I walked inside and up to my room.

I took out my textbooks and started to flip to the section with my power.

I read the entire thing before turning to Kade, who was happily munching on some of the grapes in a bowl that my mother brought up for me.

"What?" Kade asked, noticing that I was looking at them.

"It doesn't mention anything about where you came from."

Kade shrugged, "Welp, guess you'll never know."

"But it asks about the origins of my power!" I said, pointing at the worksheet.

Kade sighed.

He picked up a tiny pencil that I got just for him, and he scribbled something down.

He then moved and I saw that he wrote,

'From the magical garden'.

...

"What does that mean?" I asked.

"What do you mean 'what does that mean'?" Kade asked, grabbing another grape and munching on it.

"It doesn't make any sense. What the heck is 'the magical garden'?"

"My home."

I raised an eyebrow.

"Don't worry about it." They said.

I shrugged and kept writing.

As I filled out the sheet, I glanced at Kade, who was minding their own business.

What are you hiding?

Also, in case you guys are wondering, Kade has he/they pronouns. Normally they/them but sometimes he/him. So if you see me switch out, that's why :D
